From the latest bulletin:

Thank you to all the clubs and league officers and many others from the football world who were

represented at John’s funeral on Thursday last week. Several moving tributes were made to John,

including one from Chris Conlon, who spoke warmly of John’s contribution to the Combined Counties

League. Other speakers, including Roy Bartlett, who was the founder of Viking Sports FC, with whom

John spent many seasons as Club Secretary, reflected upon John’s earlier days when it was revealed that,

apart from his love of football, he was also an accomplished cricketer (wicket keeper) and was also a

talented pianist in his youth (a secret that none of us knew of). John’s lifelong interest in trains was also

mentioned. Although John was unable to contribute as much as he would have liked in recent times, due

to ill health, his steady and controlling influence within the League will be sorely missed.

It was unanimously agreed by the clubs at last Monday’s meeting that Chris Conlon will continue in

the role of Acting Chairman until the Management Committee decide the best time to formally seek

proposals and subsequently appoint a new chairman and any positions that arise as a result of the

vacancy being filled. The matter will, therefore, be on the agenda for the next Management Meeting on 3

September 2012.
