League Chairman, John Bennett

I am sad to have to advise that League Chairman, John Bennett, died in the early hours of this morning, having suffered a massive heart attack last Thursday, since when he had been in an induced coma. Sadly he was unable to respond to any of the treatment attempted by the hospital.

John had been dogged with ill health over the last two seasons or so, which is why he was unable to attend CCL matches which he used to enjoy so much every Saturday. He was also one of the nicest and most considerate men in football and will be sadly missed.

One of the reasons this league is so good. John always had time to talk to anyone about football and especially CCL football. He also had a lot of time for the referees and on many occasions I had great conversations with John.

He will be missed and is a loss to the CCL family. My thoughts go out to his family at this tough time.

I never knew the gentleman, but any death is very sad so my thoughts are with his family and friends at this understandably poignant time.

Very sad news and everyone at Molesey sends their sincere condolences to the family and friends of John. This is a great forum and there are many threads that cause friction and inspire debate, but it is followed by genuine and sincere people. As mentioned above, this puts everything into perspective. John was a good, honest man, who will be missed.

Sad to hear this.

I used to see John at games once in a while and he'd always say hello to me even though we were never formally introduced.

Although I never had more than a fleeting chat with him, it was obvious he was a genuinely nice bloke.

As Kroonz says, it's people like him who make this league a good one to be part of.

R.I.P. John.
