blueblood
Here, here, Alan. Delighted also. Cant see much stopping our strike force if we sign the other guy.
BlueGate Alan
Carl Rook I guess you mean Graeme, agreed once they gel together with Tommy Whitnell too I think we will see results.
michael
Do you think we need some numbers-and quality in central midfield to actually provide some possession and subsequently some chances for the strikers to actually convert ?
The Great Eckscape
Rhodesy was superb for us, hope he does well for you. He'll certainly be given a good reception by the Canvey fans home and away.
BlueGate Alan
Thanks for that Glenn, I for one was very impressed with him on Tuesday. Maybe Michael, but him and Sam Long were putting in dangerous fast crosses and free kicks which caused their defence problems and once the forwards settle I am sure goals will come. michael
Thats good-but don' you need to get and keep the ball in the initial instance before the likes of long and rhodes can do their bit ? Tougher opposition than corinthian may not allow us to have the ball to play with ?
Coffin Ender
Most teams at this level are much of a muchness in midfield and defence. Most players are not good enough technically to keep the ball under pressure (if England players can't do it then non-leaguers certainly won't) so you just end up with teams surrendering possession to each other constantly. In that respect possession is irrelevant at our level. The difference between being midtable and challenging at the top is the quality of the forwards. We saw that last season. With Kwesi we won matches we had no right to. As soon as he left we lost something like eight in a row even though it was the same set of players. The Great Eckscape
Just noticed that the photo on your website with the Rhodes story isn't Alex, it's Kyle Asante.

michael
I sort of agree with you CE-excepting that not looking for miracles here-with a national team-i guess you look for them to put 10 passes together. At ryman level-would it be good/sufficient to put 3 passes together ? That 'target' alone is probably about 50% better than we and indeed most mid table teams achieve. Its also not just about having the ball to launch attacks-probably more importantly-its about having the ball for about 10/15 minutes longer overall during the game to enable the defence to regroup/reshape /take a breath-both physically and above all mentally -and get the concentration back. Alot of goals are conceded due to a lack of concentration-you need a 'break' to get the concentration levels back up. If you can stop the onslaughts on the defence-you can concentrate better-and are less likely to concede. To do that-just need to have a little bit more possession-again-not looking for fluent free flowing football-just enough in midfield-to be able to make 3/4 passes and have the ball at your own feet for jujst 10/15 minutes per game
blueblood
no 17, 2nd half, played in a team most of whom looked to be out of position, against very pacey kids who harried. I would like to see him in that role in the 1st half team to see if he can hold up the ball as he threatend in the 2nd half.
