blueblood
I was looking for goal keeper coaching for my son who, at the time was 12 and playing for Thanet Colts . I had tried Big Nev but, he was rarely there and left it upto young lads to cover for him. Not what I or the other parents were paying for. I heard about "Just for Keepers based at the sports ground at Monkton. I contacted them and took my son along. I met Andy Woodcock and was immediately impressed by his coaching ability and his knack of communicating with the youngsters. In the short time( injury cut his playing time short) Charles was with Andy, he improved dramatically. I am very pleased Andy is know involved. Well done Margate. Paul H
During my youth football days at Thanet Colts and Margate starting some 21 years ago, good goalkeeping coaches were hard to come by and it was quite often overlooked by the trainers. Sometimes we'd train with Joe Radford and later on with Lee Smelt. Even at the soccer schools that my brother and I used to attend, there was rarely a goalkeeping coach there. It's great that there is a trainer locally dedicated to this position. It's not an easy position to teach. It's not as simple as catching a ball. Its all about positioning, being on your toes, foot work, balance, getting your body behind the ball, keeping your eye on the ball and antisipation. If your son does the basics well, he'll do OK. Blue Banshee
its also about keeping the lad interested in playing in goal when all the glory is up front - hard to deal with aged 8!
Paul H
Even at the age of 32 after 22 years in goal it's hard to keep interested. Picking the ball out of the back of the net starts to to get a bit boring after a while lol
SteveB
Believe me, once you get to 40, keeping interested is the least of your worries! Landing on the ground and the subsequent struggle to get back to your feet are the main issues then. I won't even go into my impressively swollen knee and barely moveable wrist. And that is after just one game!
Wellsie
.... struggling to resist the urge to ask about wrist injury ......
