Signings

I've been looking at some other clubs web-sites and the coverage they are giving to new and old players signing for next season. This ranges from non-existant/poor to some excellent coverage.

A couple of examples of some excellent coverage are the Chesham site which has photos of Michael Chennels and returning players signing and St Neots which has old action shots and details of returning players signing for next season.

I don't know if this is just my opinion but when I see clubs making a big splash on new signings and existing players re-signing, always gives me a good impression of that club and the importance they put on getting those signatures whether old or new.

The last time we did anything decent on new signings was when we signed Paul Edgeworth and Chris Heron when photos and a write up were produced of the players signing.

We have just made which looks on the surface to be 3 excellent new signings and the only coverage it's been given is what's taken from the local papers.

This is only my opinion but I would like to see more credence/importance put on signings with maybe a pic and some info on any new signings on the home page section.

RR, volunteering to help to pull together interviews with players and getting current pictures would always be appreciated. We are a team of three looking after the site with plenty of other distractions at the moment. If you can help and write up interviews then by all means please step forwards.

We taking the off season to update lots of things behind the scenes and are working endlessly on populating plenty of information into the player and match databases. We are doing as best we can with the resources we have.

Gary,

I can appreciate all the work that people are doing behind the scenes at Slough which is time consuming and done in their own time.

I wasn't suggesting an interview with the players which, as you say, is time consuming etc.

When SB sits down and signs these players how difficult would it be to then take a quick photo on his mobile, send it to the relevent person and then the write up on the back-ground of the players can be taken from the interview SB has given to the papers.

All I'm saying is that IMO it gives a good impression of a club, not only to people like me who browse the sites, but to the incoming players who will more than likely look at the web-site and, i think, will be suitably impressed that they've done the right thing and signed for a good club.

Perhaps I'm sadly mistaken?

You'd have to ask SB RR. I can't comment on his behalf. We will gladly post up stories and articles sent to us but at this moment in time we are not in a position to chase and manage that workload in addition to what we currently are.

However, if someone would be willing to coordinate and submit that to further enhance the quality of our site, then we would gladly welcome their contributions.

I think you've made a fair point,Reading Rebel but I can also see the angle Gary's coming from.

Slough's website is among the best I've seen in non-league football, excluding the Blue Square Premier clubs.Especially considering the level we play at.

However, there's always room for improvement. With a bit of luck we may get an update regarding players tomorrow[Friday] when the local newspapers are out.

On the Farnborough website/forum,a chap does interviews with past players/managers/coaches about their memories of the club, their best games, who were the characters and their best mate in the team and such like. Also funny occurences and what the player thought of the managers they played under etc.

Wondered if this could be something that could be run on either our forum or the Slough programme. We could even start with Steve Bateman's memories of playing for Slough. If he would oblige. I'd be happy to help although I'm not the greatest with these bloody computers,so would probably need some assistance.

3S, agree wholeheartedly and it is simply a case of resource for us. There's loads of things we'd love to be able to do for the site, but the three of us working on it are already over capacity and this is supposed to be the quiet time of year!

I'm sure Bates would be happy enough to talk after games or after training at the Polish, as I'm sure would many of the players. If people can get audio clips over to me, i'll happily get it written up for inclusion into the programme/website. No computer skills required!
