Hatfield Town Repreived

Recommended Posts

Very sad news to read. Looks like they've been caught where dozens of clubs flout their license regulations & get away with it.

Sad also for other clubs as it was always a great

surface to play on.

I still don't agree with all this reprieve business.

If a club is in the relegation zone,

it should be relegated. Hoddesdon performed

on the pitch last season & their 3rd place

should be rewarded.

It will be interesting to see if BB V&E will reform

with the same management team & squad.

Hoddesdon Town were not in a promotion spot

to come up.

People need to understand that promotion and relegation is unfortunately not always decided on a teams finishing position.

Ground grading and finances will always play a part in who goes up and who stays down.

Everyone knows where they stand and the beginning of each season on this as the Rules

cover any given situation..........or they should

do.

& that is why the politics of football is a bunch of b0ll0cks. It should be 90% about performance on the pitch & 10% of the other gumph.

Don't tell me 3rd from bottom in the Prem is better than 3rd from top in Div.1 because it isn't.

It all sounds like a closed shop & that's not good for football !

Relegation and promotion is govern by the FA and the standard league rules across the NLS. When the level 5 review was taking place we made this point to the FA that they keep rewarding failure and not success. They are now saying that if you come bottom of your league you will get relegated. The problem is that the standard set of rules covers only the top 2 places and have the required ground grading.

Levy were promoted into the Premier division when we came 4th in Division1 in 2003.

I don't contribute to this forum much nowadays because of the utter drivel that has been posted here during the close season but I think Syd is absolutely correct. The top two teams in Div 1 have been promoted on merit and quite rightly so (and I am looking forward to a trip to Ampthill next season as it will be a new ground for me).

Reprieving Hanwell was, I suppose, mildly acceptable though not really an example of promoting success, but retrieving Hatfield was quite ridiculous. As I recall, this team had to play a number of their home matches towards the end of last season at neutral venues because their "home" ground was no longer up to the standard required of Step 5. Does the league have a guarantee that the Gosling will be up to the standard to host SSML Prem games next season or will teams be required to travel to meet Hatfield at a number of different venues?

I know that Hoddesdon push their case for promotion every season and a few years back I was present at a league AGM when a quite laughable case for their elevation was proposed and quite rightly rejected. However, given their finishing position in Div 1 last season and Hatfield's farcical end to the 2011-12 season, I think the Lillywhites are far more deserving of a berth in the Prem than the tenants of the Gosling (or wherever it may be) for the forthcoming season.

As Syd says "the politics of football is a bunch of b0ll0cks" and there is no way that a team finishing bottom of the Prem is better than a team finishing near the top of Div 1.

Utter drivel got to call foul on that there has cruelly been some good discussion and banter recently. Yes the same old distractions but we all know the craic.

Everyone knows where they stand and the beginning of each season on this as the Rules cover any given situation..........or they should do. Yes every body does know where they stand at the start of the season , including all the work that is required to maintain or achieve the ground grading to play at the level or the level above should you finish in a promotion position, hatfield could not play any home games last few weeks of the season, in april they played home games at colney heath, london colney etc, all works to comply with ground grading had to be completed by 31 march, so how can they have whats needed now, the fact is the "work" that has been carried out does not come near whats needed and the question has to be asked who has been to gosling stadium to check what has been done ? the hatfield chairman has apparentley told the ssml that all works are completed, if hoddesdon have the required ground grading then they should be playing in the premier div next season, the precedent has been set in recent years for the team finishing third being promoted.... hatfield ... this league is more concerned about achieving the number of teams to satisfy fa rules than anything else, dont even get me started on broxbourn, london lions, codicote or a few other "clubs" in the ssml.

Dear All

I have been watching this forum for some time now, and to be honest i have been until now reluctant to speak on this forum about Hatfield Town Football Club.....But now feel that it's time we put out the 'Facts'!!! Due to some comments being made in this forum.

I would firstly like thank all those clubs that have sent us messages of support via Twitter and who have made contact directly.

I have been Chairman of Hatfield Town Football Club since being elected on 16th January 2012, and in my short tenure of a little less than 6 months, we have had a very large mountain to climb......Yes....as pointed out on this forum it was a 'farcical end to the season' but people need to appreciate that sometimes these things happen as a matter of course, and sometimes cant be unavoided!

I will start at the beginning.....Before my appointment as Chairman, the previous Chairman was financing the club completely, and also paid out a large some of money to upgrade Gosling Sports Park, to enable us to play at Step 5, he increased the dressing room size, fixed and extended the dug outs (falling apart and too small) and put in a secure walkway (Made from Scaffolding) from the dressing rooms to the pitch!! This enable the ground to achieve step 5!!

At the back end of 2011, he chose to cease financing the club, for which he is entitled to do, and stepped down as chairman, after stepping down, he took all of his goods away (He owned all the scaffolding that made the walkway) from the ground, we contacted SSMFL Immediately (who i must say were very helpful) who gave us special dispensation to play the game 2 days after this without a walkway, but after then we would have to correct the ground!!

We were also heavily in debt at this time as well, and faced the possibility of folding!!!! I would not allow this to happen!!

Myself and Ted Collie, then took on the task of moving away from Gosling for the remaining 6 or 7 games, and then try and resolve the issues with Gosling in the close season!! And i have 'Personally' cleared all of the clubs debts, so we can have a fresh start!!!

We had no choice, but to vacate Gosling!!! But i am pleased to say, that Gosling is now up to step 5 again through us jointly paying for the works required to be done with the newly promoted Codicote FC.

With regards to our reprieve, firstly i would like to wish Broxbourne Borough all the very best for the future, and i am sure that they will rebuild the club successfully.

Neither I nor Hatfield Town FC make the rules, Im not saying i agree with the rules, but my honest opinion on this matter is..........We have had a real testing 6 months, and this is the only thing that has gone in our favour, and maybe we deserved this bit of luck......and as i said......we don't make the rules, we just try and abide by them.

My answer to those that feel we wont do much better next season.............I totally disagree.

I know a lot of what goes on with this forum is 'Banter' But come on people............we are all on here because we love football surely???

Kind Regards and best wishes to you all

Yes, definitely a good post & I hope all your time, effort & financial input is rewarded with a more successful season on the pitch this season. Nothing against Hatfield or Hanwell for that matter, but I still feel the league have bailed out a little bit by reprieving yourselves & Hanwell. Still good luck & make sure it doesn't happen next year !

Hatfield Town, your post makes interesting reading, what works have you and codicote done to get the ground to the level required to play in the premier division?

Patrick

We have reinstated the secure walkway from the changing rooms to the pitches, we were (like everybody else) inspected by the League, and all boxes are now ticked, we have also negotiated with Gosling to replace the floodlights as well, which should be installed early September!!
