Slough Express article-three new players......

Thought I'd start a new thread. In todays Slough Express it says we've signed Ashley Deeney from King Lynn,Dave Deeney from Hemel Hempstead and Dominic Rhone from AFC Hayes.

Good to see that we've added a 20 and a 21 year old to our side.We desperately needed to lower the average age of the Slough team of last season. This will add some manoeuvrability around the pitch.

Be a real shame now, though, if we lose the talents of Simon Sweeney and Danny Murphy because both of them could easily adapt to play with the new additions and make competition for places.Slough will be weaker without them.

Will Dunlop was mentioned in the article, too but given his injuries record I don't see him as a better centre half than Simon Sweeney can be.Especially given the fact that we still have Alex Brown,NBH and Dave Woozley Just my opinion.

What do other fans think?

Sorry to see that Steve Sinclair is leaving.Another player who won't lack for offers from other clubs.I do think that Steve Bateman is making the right call on Steve Sinclair's departure, as we do need to freshen up our attacking ideas.

Sounds like there's a few more changes to come. I agree I'm glad we're adding a bit more youth and pace to the squad. Shame in that respect if we lose Jerome Anderson. Not surprised or disappointed to see Sincs go. He needed a change.

Three excellent signings there, we are on course for promotion.

I like your positivity before a ball has even been kicked ,Windsor Rebel ! lol !

Wish you were Mystic Meg,then I might get the vibe on your outlandish prediction.

3 spirit: without the likes of St Neots and Bedworth around I cant see any teams matching us, assuming we

can perform as well defensively as we did last season. Of the new teams, I have only seen Guildford and

they are beatable. Not sure about Royston or Godalming, they are unknowns to me.

Good luck to Steve Sinclair, who I have enjoyed watching over the past few seasons, particularly his first few. Didn't happen for him last year, I don't think the new system or the heavy pitch suited him and he cut a bit of a frustrated figure towards the end. Still, over 100 caps for the Rebels and most of them very entertaining. I'm sure once he's served his time he'll be back better than ever.

Don't know much about the new signings but look forward to seeing them in action soon. COYR!

Firstly, I would like to thank Steve Sinclair and wish him all the luck at his new club wherever that may be, certainly for a player, these days, to achieve over 100 appearance for any club is to be commended. Based upon last seasons performances I think it was patently obvious that Sincs needed a new challenge and at the same time our play down the right had become too predictable and far too easy for other team to nullify.

I would also like to welcome Dave and Ashley Deeney and Dominic Rhone into the Rebels fold and wish them all the best in our quest for promotion next season.

On the playing front IMO it's patently obvious that SB is going to try to play a brand of football that will be both exciting to watch and at the same time keeping it solid at the back.

SB's current thoughts are to use Ashley Deeney and Dominic Rhone as wing backs who will be capable of getting up and down the pitch for 90 minutes.

So a starting formation of 5-3-2 capable of switching to 3-5-2 depending if we're attacking or defending.

Pretty pleased with the players Bates is looking to bring in/had brought in. Defintely lacked some energy and pace in the side towards the end of the season particually. Was very impressed by Rhone (he scored the pen in the 1-1 home draw with AFC Hayes) and thought he was the best player on the pitch that day so he looks like a good signing, and Ashley Deeney sounds like we he will be good in the 5-3-2 formation we look set to stick with. Dave Deeney is a good player and has won the title at this level with Arlesey, so he knows what it takes to win this league.

Still think our most important signing is to come - our playmaker to replace Paul Coyne and we desperately need someone to do that as I don't think we have that in the current squad. Pleased that 85% of last seasons squad seem to be coming back. Also like to see a targetman come in.

Good luck to Sincs. He never really looked the player we know he is the last season and seemed frustrated in a lot of games. He suffered hugely in my opinion with the 5-3-2 formation as he was a winger playing wing-back. Was our longest serving player until now in the current squad.

Agree.

Although SB has said that Dave Deeney will be the 'enforcer' a good player who will put his foot in, which is just what we have needed, this still leaves a much needed play-maker, as you say, a re-placement for Paul Coyne.

Also that elusive big bustling forward who can hold the ball up and get on the end of crosses.

Without those two types of players I think we might just fall short of a team that can win the title next season.

Whether he comes back to us will obviously depend how he gets on with the pre-season training and friendlies at Hayes and Yeading.

Dom Rhone will be the first person I've ever played with (Lego team circa 09) to pull on a first team slough shirt. Really nice guy and a good player. Glad he's on our side now so I can be nice to him rather than when he played for that 'lovely' brook house team!!! Good luck Dom, glad you're a rebel now!!!
