Purfleet 1 Billericay 0

Billericay stumbled to their 11th defeat in fifteen games against a pretty ordinary purfleet side.

purfleet had a shot tipped onto the bar by jj in the first half and they also had a few other chances whilst we failed to have a shot on target in the 90 mins..hardly surprising considering we lined up 4-5-1...

the game seemed to be heading towards a 0-0 draw with us failing to create much and purfleet seemingly unable to hit a barn door from two yards when redders managed to get himself sent off. a second yellow for kicking the ball away (well done mate) altho many thought he was lucky to stay on the pitch after his deliberate hand ball in the first half.

shortly after this, kris lee rose unmarked to head home from a free kick and i think we all knew the game was up.

the referee was hopelessly inconsistent, failing to penalise one of their blokes for kicking the ball away, failing to punish lee for his persistent fouling, missing a pull in the area for us at 0-0. and failing to add on any time at the end when one of their substitutions must have taken three minutes, but all this can not disguise that we were never likely to score a goal.

i thought the new defender thomas (stevens has gone back to orient)did well at the back altho he understandably tired late on. i was surprised to see that gary ansell was made captain, obviously a reward for failing to sign a contract for three months.

we have three home games coming up and frankly we need to win them all, against sutton and st albans in the league and tilbury in the trophy. we are still "only" 7 points away from the "sanctity" of fifth from bottom and a play-off place so i would suggest these three games are key to the future of this side.

Lets face it, we were cruising to a well-earned point until Reddington got himself sent off and ultimately cost us the game. We didn't use the pace of Williamson and if only Marlon could have a bit more confidence when attacking defenders instead of trying to off load as soon as possible. We got into some promising positions but as was in-keeping with the context of the game, very little was created in the way of chances. In tight games like this we always seem to create our own downfall. If players had a little more composure and discipline then our fortunes will turn round sooner rather than later.

how is it the managers fault if redders gets sent off? how is it the managers fault he has no money to buy a good side?

ive said it before, justin cannot make average players become great players. We may never know if he can make good players into great players and at this rate we could be game over by xmas. sorry to sound drastically negative but its not getting any better and we have even stopped creating chances. the one grain of hope is that in sure Ford were in a bad mess this time last season and they pulled it round but we really need to start excepting we are in a dog fight.
