newley signed player

He might have signed forms but until they are registered with the league it doesn't count for much and that can't happen until sometime in July.

How come Pitchero/Non-League and Non-League Daily websites are all full of stories about Non-League players signing for various clubs.

Bedworth have signed five players. Hemel Hempstead a whole team !

Steve Bateman has been good in previous seasons in letting the supporters know what's happening at the club but this mystery signing is doing my head in and the wait is getting tedious.

I know some supporter will come out with the Errol Telemarque situation but that doesn't mean this instance is the same.

...........and yes,I appreciate that SB must have his reasons for not elaborating on who it is but this forum is as dull as ditchwater at the moment and a chink of light in regards the new season would be a lift for pre-season.

Only a thought.

In a lot of ways 3spirit I agree with you.

A lot of clubs announce that new as well as old players have signed/re-signed for their respective clubs and why not?

If players commit to clubs by signing a registration form and then consequently change their minds for whatever reason, do we really want those players at our club?

I only want players at Slough who are 100% committed to the club, the players who are not will more than likely leave at some point whether it's after the signing has been announced or once the season starts.

I would imagine one of the reasons clubs make a big splash about their signings is to give supporters a pre-season boost which hopefully will encourage old and new supporters to invest in a season ticket or just to turn up for the first time when the season starts.

A player can in theory sign forms with one club then rip up that form and sign forms with another club. The forms cannot be registered with the league until sometime in July - that came from my wife. The reason SB will want to keep the identity of the player under wraps for now is I'm sure precisely because of this.

I'm not saying for one minute that this player (whoever it is) would renege on the deal but until the forms are with the league it isn't a done deal.

Well, that's a player who should be good for the club.Thank you,HP9, for offering a feasible, possible player to this thread.

However,do we need centre-halves? Midfielders and a different type of striker are what we need.

Not entirely correct Ian as the first club he signs for has a thing called 'Priority of registration' should they choose to challenge it. The league, upon request, will then check the two forms and see which is dated earliest and the club with the earliest date then holds the players' registration. The only downside is that the player may then be suspended for signing 2 forms and he will definitely be fined for doing so.

In reality though most clubs will just rip the form up as managers won't actually want the type of player who would do that to you anyway !

I have also heard that Will Dunlop is signing for you and Michael Chennels has had offers from Slough and Chesham with Slough being the better financially but Chesham obviously a better level of football. Like every year though you'll know more in July than you do in June as the circus starts to settle down then !

Yes Steve, I'm aware of the priority rule but as you say, nobody is going to challenge it anyway as you don't want to keep a player who doesn't want to play for. Having missed out on targets in the past I can understand why SB wouldn't want to keep quiet for now, however frustrating that might be for supporters. Surprised to see Leigh Mason's name on the list of potentials. No disrespect but I don't see that as a step forward.

The suggestion is that we will have both David Deeney and his brother at the club

Now think its more than a suggestion, all but confirmed on David Deeney's twitter feed! Will be interesting with Joe Deeney, he's a cage fighter!

Got my Deeney's mixed up, it's Ashley Deeney, a right back who played for St Neots and Kings Lynn last season!

Also, did anyone know that Kings Lynn have signed Shane Tolley?

Don't particually think we need wholesale changes. I'd be happy to see 85% of the squad stay, with no defenders leaving as our defence was awesome last season and was key to our success.

Ideally I think i'd like to see a wingback, targetman and two central midfielders (one key creative to replace Coyney - and that will need to be our major signing this season for me, and one to replace Adam Martin/Chris Seeby who I did not think we were really replaced. There will be departures, probably unexpected ones as well as that's the way football works.

Not heard Chrs Dillon's name being linked with us Cookham Rebel, but is a top player imo.

Also anyone know how long Coyne is going travelling for? Could he return for the 2nd half of the season maybe?

With David Deeney also being a right back that can also operate in a number of other defensive and midfield positions, I wonder if this means that Sweeney and Sinclair are moving onto pastures new?!?!

I hope Simon Sweeney doesn't leave us.Perhaps Ashley Deeney is coming to be his understudy,as he's young and not that experienced .Dave Deeney plays right back, too.

Ben Sturgess will obviously be surplus to requirements.

I'm surprised we didn't use Simon Sweeeney as a centre half, more often than we have especially last season with three centre half combinations. If he does leave,he will soon be snapped up,as a defender he's quality.
