What are the rules governing player participation in the F.A.Cup,do they have to of played for the Club before,or can they be signed on the day.Could be a funny scenario if not,if they get through a couple of rounds, they could sign younger more up to date players,as money is no object.Heskey even? Pearcey still in goal though?

Oi Sweeney you are now a BTK so get back to your new forum ;)

Haha, is there actually a reasonably active Southern League forum anywhere?

It's a 2 yr deal, read the info given.no ones left in the wilderness, everyone knows where they stand as for the budget, nothing's set.

That's the problem a little information and people get it wrong!

It's one thing to attract famous faces to promote the Wembley FC/Budweiser brand, entirely another to see them squander a place in the FA Cup by playing a bunch of waddling has-beens. I really can't see any of these "names" actually kicking a ball in the FA Cup this year unless it's a nominal 87th minute substitution.

How embarrassing would an Extra Preliminary Round elimination be for Terry Venables and Budweiser?

The 2 year deal is between Wembley F.C. and Budweiser, think most people know that.So the Superstars do not know what they are getting, for their participation yet as No Budget has been set.Find that very hard to believe.Would be better surely if everyone playerwise was on a 2 year contract also, surely the Manager has negiotated a 2 yr deal?

Bit harsh Lee,I remember Hessantahler playing for Dover at 42 years old against Whyteleafe,he ran the show. You never lose your ability, just your pace in later life.

Most of these players are long retired. Hess hadn't retired - he, like the Nigel Golley and even Ian Selley, trained and trained to keep fit enough to play at a decent level. If you stop playing weekly competitive football and just play the odd charity or "Legends" match, you'll soon get found out in an FA Cup match against a team of players 10, 15, 20 years younger than you. The FA Cup is not a charity event. It's competitive with an awful lot at stake for young footballers.

Remember Eric Ninja Young playing for Egham many moons ago,he just dropped a shoulder, and had 2 opposing players in a melee on the floor.Stanley Matthews was still class at 50,what about George Eastham pure quality at 46.NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING OLD,ask Blueandwhitearmy, class is forever.

Any negative comments are purely down to jealousy. Nothing else. Who would honestly turn this opportunity down? Countless non-league teams who reach FA cup first round proper are sponsored by The Sun newspaper or something similar for ONE game and nobody says a thing!! I say to Wembley FC, no matter if it's for one game or 20 seasons, get as much as you can out of it and good luck. In this day and age of non-league clubs folding every 2 minutes, it's good to see a small club being given a big chance to secure and evolve its immediate future!

You've missed a large part of my point - what about the players who have to sacrifice their place for some has been to play??

I've got nothing against fleecing corporate giants but not at the expense of normal players for the club.

It might be harsh to drop players for the cup games. But Wembley have set their stalls out early. Anyone signing now knows that a shirt for FA cup game is not guaranteed. It would have been unacceptable if they had told players an hour before kick-off but if this is what they want to and every right to do, then this is the correct way to do it, if its being done for the good of the club. Like I said, it may be a tad harsh yes, but im sure that the hierarchy at Wembley FC are doing it for the greater good of their club?

Exactly that 2 years is immediate, what happens long term to the Club. They will have great facilities due to Budweisers investment which is welcome.Does Budweisers sponsorship of the F.A.CUP run out in 2 years, what happens then?
