Players will no longer be able to use tape of a different colour to their socks.Which players use to keep their shinpads in place.

But they will be able to wear a Headscarf, not sure if it has to be matching their Shirt Colour though.

Smudge, is that genuine? If so, it gets worse and worse!!! Undershorts and now tape, another waste of time for all involved in the game!!!!

Drop ball scenario is a little more interesting now too.

Tape not a major issue but big white 'ankle' socks over existing kit socks is!

This ''ankle sock'' issue. I watched a game last season and amazingly the referee ordered the player off 'cos he had ankle socks over his kick socks, everyone thought he had been sent off !

Okay if its an FA ruling please, lets not get at the non-league/grass roots football players 'cos all they are doing is copying premiership/championship even leagues 1 & 2 players some which are idols. So if the FA want to stop this ''ankle sock'' situation, STOP it at the professional level, 'cos I bet that non-league players reaction to the referee would be well the professionals are allowed why can't we ?

The FA ruling is for ALL football players which includes all the pro leagues or have I got this wrong ..... ;) !

It's in the Laws of the Game as published by FIFA so it will be in place at all levels of the game. I agree that implementation, or not, at the professional level will have a knock-on effect in terms of an example being set.

The main changes to the Laws which have an obvious impact for players, management and officials are;

Law 4 - The Players' Equipment

New text

stockings - if tape or similar material is applied externally it must be the same colour as that part of the stocking it is

applied to.

Reason

An increasing number of players are using excessive amounts of tape externally on their socks. This can be a multitude of colours and completely changes the look of the sock. This can cause confusion, particularly for assistant referees who may need to look at the sock to determine who last played the ball before it went out of play.

Law 8 - The Start and Restart of Play

New text

Infringements and sanctions

The ball is dropped again:

(" .)

If the ball enters the goal:

if a dropped ball is kicked directly into the opponents' goal, a goal kick is awarded

if a dropped ball is kicked directly into the team's own goal, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team

Reason

There have been a number of occasions where goals have been scored from "uncontested" dropped balls. This has put a great deal of pressure on the referee as he has to allow the goal to stand. We then have the unseemly situation where the opposition allows the team to score from the kick-off without any players trying to stop them in order to rebalance the game.

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct

Interpretation of the Laws of the Game and Guidelines for Referees - Disciplinary sanctions

New text

There are circumstances when a caution for There are circumstances when a caution for unsporting behaviour is required when a player unsporting behaviour is required when a player deliberately handles the ball, e.g. when a player: deliberately handles the ball, e.g. when a player:

• deliberately and blatantly handles the ball to • deliberately and blatantly handles the ball to prevent an opponent gaining possession prevent an opponent gaining possession

Reason

It is more important to punish the consequence that the hand ball created rather than the fact that it was blatant. In fact, a hand ball could be inconspicuous but certainly very important. Furthermore, it is difficult to define what is meant by "blatantly" (p. 113), and therefore to have a uniform interpretation, especially by referees from different countries or continents with very different experiences. Deleting the word "blatantly", and providing that if the hand ball prevented the opponent from gaining possession the player must be cautioned, makes the interpretation easier (p. 117).

WHAT ABOUT THE HEADSCARF?players need to look their best.Does not state whether wearing wrong colour tape, will be a bookable offence? So if a hand touches a ball at any time,it is a bookable offence, should the word deliberate of not been of inserted instead,as this new law means everytime handball is given by the official,he must book the Player.NICE LITTLE EARNER.

Thanks Gluck, an interesting read. The old 'drop ball' is back then !

So are you saying that professionals can wear ''ankle socks'' over their kit socks and that non-league players cannot ?

Here's one for you. On so many occasions we plainly witness on TV shirt pulling, holding, dragging players mostly at set pieces including corners but yet no foul (either way) is given, which could subsequently result in a penalty being given ?

These are clearly fouls which would be given outside the box with the offending player being booked, yet in the penalty box its allowed to go on unpunished !.

There is an obvious way to stop all this by giving a penalty for the offensive team and a free kick for the defending team, but why haven't the referee's got the b*lls to do it ? They obviously see whats going on 'cos on numerous times we see referee's talk to the offending players. This will certainly stop all the fouling that goes on in the box. Yes we could have 4-5 penalties, but do you think we would ? I would have thought that players would quickly learn that a referee has the b*lls to give the foul/penalty so they would stop their antics thereafter.

Interesting.......

No, i'm not saying that. I'm saying that implementation (application), or not, of this law at the professional level will have a subsequent knock-on effect at other levels of the game, i.e. it will ensure consistency in application of the law.

For the other subject, what you see on TV replays in slow motion and from a range of camera angles is not the same as the one-time only instance in real-time that the referee has of an incident. You correctly note that referees will often take some form of pre-emptive action to address this (such as speaking to the players) so if he does award a penalty or freekick, he's already gone some way to helping himself 'sell' the decision.

Ironically, Howard Webb, England's referee at the current European Championships, did make such a decision at the previous Championship's in 2008. See the Wikipedia entry on it below;

UEFA Euro 2008

In December 2007, Webb was selected as England's representative to referee in UEFA Euro 2008, with Darren Cann and Mike Malarkey as his assistants.[30]

On 12 June 2008, whilst refereeing in his first match of the tournament, a Group B game between Austria and Poland, and with less than one minute left in stoppage time, he awarded Austria a penalty kick after he adjudged Poland's Mariusz Lewandowski to have pulled the shirt of Sebastian Prödl. The penalty was converted and the match finished 1–1.[31] Leo Beenhakker, Poland's head coach, described the decision as "inconsistent with the rest of the tournament".[32][33][34] Some commentators praised the decision, describing it as "brave".[35] In the light of UEFA's instructions to referees about conduct at set pieces, the decision to award a penalty in such circumstances was considered a breakthrough in strict implementing the laws of the game by some commentators.[33] UEFA official William Gaillard said the decision was not controversial and was correct.[36] On 15 June, Webb was reported as saying that the only incorrect decision he made was to allow Poland's goal, which he said was offside. "To me the penalty was clear and I hope that people later will look at it and realise it was the only decision that could be taken," Webb said. In the same interview he also said that neither he nor his family, who remain in England, feel under threat. "I have not received any threats," he said.[37]

On 18 June, Webb refereed his second game of Euro 2008 when he took charge of the Group D match in which Greece lost 2–1 to Spain.[38] UEFA stated on 19 June that Webb had not been selected to referee matches in the knock-out phase.[39]

Once in a lifetime occurrence, does not defend the others who have not.He was clearly rewarded well by his Masters for doing something brave, within the Laws I may add.By not officiating at the latter stages of the Tournament. The corner had been taken I presume, and was in Play.

Would that include All Officials wearing Black,or the lower Level Ones being able to wear Green/Yellow/Red,Stinks of a Class system to me.Could also be the reason why the Lino missed 2 offsides last night,Ukraine predominantly Yellow, against a backdrop of Supporters wearing you guessed it yellow, the Fergie theory!!!!
