CCCC
As a long time observer and relatively recent contributor it has troubled me that this forum has its own version of Godwin's Law http://bit.ly/jBaHZ9 It seems that almost every thread inevitably mentions an individual and then proceeds to fluctuate between debating personality to outright insult at the expense of the topic concerned. Is that really what this forum is about? I seek not to attack or defend any contributor or their past posts and certainly not to deny anyone's right to free speech. However, if the proposition is true, that the SSML forum community does have its own version of Godwins Law, it is a negative thing and is troubling as to how this is viewed by the wider forum community. After all the presumption is that most if not all contributors are fans, players, ex-players or administrators of SSML clubs sharing a genuine healthy passion for all things SSML first and foremost. It is of course just a proposition; an opinion, it may not be true. By posting you expect those who do not agree to adduce evidence, provide authority for the counter argument to try and sway the debate. Any thread is simply a means to seek greater information and knowledge or simply to provoke a debate. Isn't that how messageboards and forums work or should do ? Or of course you could simply attack the contributor ignoring the topic or worse throw in "the name"- apply the SSML version of Godwin's law in the safe knowledge that the cudgel will be picked up by others happy to wade in. It is puerile or at worse it gives licence to troll - the modern taboo of this electronic age. If it is acceptable to denounce a certain character then it must be ok to denounce anyone on the forum regardless of the discussion topic. Is that really what is wanted? It serves to exaggerate the notoriety and aggrandise individuals which seems the polar opposite of much of the sentiment expressed against them. The forum is a fantastic information resource. It is reflective of the people in and around the SSML, us, and my hope for next season it is viewed by others entirely in a positive light. However, whether the proposition of it having its own version of Godwins law is correct or not is entirely up to us. Please God let me be wrong lest like others I suspect I shall seek SSML info where this is not the case. Edited June 11, 2012 by CCCC
Loose
Hello CCCC, I don't think I know you or you I but if we do perhaps you'll let me know. I did note you taking a recent interest and welcome to posting on this forum from all of us I am sure. I would imagine that you mean well and I certainly won't be insisting that you do not know what you are talking about, certainly as an onlooker uninvolved sometimes it is much easier to take the "Helicopter View" and judge the whole story with more balance. But let's not be frightened to name names and by all means let us know whether you also are a fan, player, administrator past or present too but Rhodes is not your usual punchbag, in fact I'd be willing to bet that 99% of users including myself would be more than happy not to feel harassed by his comments or address the more outlandish - however they are frequent, daily, several times a day and you can take the view not to give him attention which many do, or when you see him say something untrue, unfair or even salaciously slanderous feel that it is necessary not to leave a lie and libel unanswered. Non League UK is a fantastic resource and the people who make it possible, moderate it and genuinely contribute freely with information and help whether publicly or privately, and I am sure that without them non league would be the poorer for it. The same goes for those who play and provide the playing and these are often Rhodes targets since he is jealous of such people, their abilities and in a weird way their unselfishness, in fact he probably would struggle to explain why this is but I suspect that he has been found and himself feels inadequate in the past. These people will stand up for themselves but it is also unfair to expect them not to be supported as frequently as he repeats this slanders, old and often. If you think something is wrong and you are not afraid to put your head above the parapet then you should speak up, if not, don't, but risk this forum becoming dead with one lone poster which you can experience in some of the ESL Club Forums on this board. Occasionally a poster will pipe up that they just want to see football discussed on this forum. I'm very ok with that. Just post, it would be terrific and a benefit to us all and that really is the surest way to make trolls insignificant and unsuccessful so don't be put off and I hope you and your opinions thrive but I've seen it before, a new poster with your opinions on exactly the same subject himself / herself finding themselves in the habit of repudiating one of Rhodes utterances. Today has been an unedifying day here but hopefully one day we will all be able to be a bit more human to each other on here. Smudge
Uncle T
More football posts and their discussed would be really great. There are times when I do not reply because I am sick and tired of the bitching. Once or twice I have responded because we should all challenge the nonsense occasionally.

syd_lexic
To be perfectly honest, i didn't have a fecking clue what the original poster was going on about. It certainly had nothing to do with football, but i suppose in laymens terms he meant you get one poster who consistently acts like a t!t & constantly antagonises, then the majority make a stand & all of a sudden the t!t is a victim. Does that make sense ? Not sure myself.

Steve, there is a supposed "natural law' of t'internet and forums, that eventually during a debate someone will use an anology or example or even just compare someone to Hitler and in by doing so automatically loses the argument or in the old days we'd have said "p'eed in the soup". This poster I suppose was saying that Rhodes was the Non League Forum's version of Godwin's Law, ie. Hitler and by bringing him up, into or introducing him to the topic was like peeing into the conversation and spoiling any valid debate. I think. No, Rhodes isn't Hitler though. Never mind. The point being that anyone who likes to come along and teach us to suck eggs either doesn't have to put up with Hitler Rhodes on a daily basis or hang around long enough to make their words count for anything. Seen it all before was my point.

Rhodes
Loosely - I'm sure you have accessed the link but if you are true to your word then here is a taster for you of some of it's contents, like I said I rest my case: Some of you may remember in 2008 we had a number of unhappy members of MyFC who claimed that they were not getting what they paid for. Because of this they decided to create a new club, Southill Alexander. They made a website, asked an 8 year old to design their club badge and started taking money and float the idea. The name of the club was decided as Southill Alexander, I don't know why, the club colours were purple, I don't know why, the nickname was the "Bishops", don't know why and they ground shared at Biggleswade United, again I don't etc......
