Pre Season Update

Recommended Posts

Ok, my posts keep getting removed about the Goats but I accept that we have to play them now so I will stop. I wont be going.

However, the Norwich City game is very misleading - they are playing Peterborough on 28th July so lets stop trying to kid people that we are playing a decent team and get the website updated.

Thanks

Papa

Any Norwich City team will be useful and a good test for our lad's, your just a very poor supporter and a very poor judgement of ability, I can always defer to your comments at the beginning of last season when you said we had the worse Town team ever, HA HAHAHAHAHAHA we then get promoted.......................................................So Dumb.

Any Norwich City team will be useful and a good test for our lad's,

Exactly. I remember some quibbling about the Spurs academy team for the grand opening night. They weren't too shabby and, frankly, should have won. Their Norwich equivalents should be an equally good match up.

I'm not saying they wont be a good team but we shouldnt lie about who we are playing and piss potential fans off. Anyone remember Lazarou and the West Ham XI friendly? What we are doing is just as bad if not worse. Hopefully Norwich fans arent as stupid as West Ham fans or Enfield United.

I don't think we'll (Wrexham) be sending down a full-strength side - on twitter it was described as "youthful" - but I'd expect a few first team players.

That said, a team that was pretty much a youth side (the first XI and subs were away beating Brentford in the Cup - and the team fielded had two players over 18) deserved to beat Welsh Premier side Airbus in the Welsh Cup earlier this year so the kids are certainly no pushovers. Quite looking forward to it though.

I'd recommend stopping any of this "The Goats" nonsense now though.

As you should know I don't like Lazarou but I must stand up for him over the West Ham farce as they sent a list to us of first team players and then sent a youth side on the day plus they had a history of doing it to non-league clubs with many clubs being caught out like it.

I don't anyone expects a first team to be sent for a pre season game these days when they don't bother most of the time for cup games..

Frankly papa I think you just like to moan, whinge, complain about every little thing! As others pointed out - you said this was the worse Town side and they got promoted! I am surprised you didn't moan about the play off final only being 1-0! Speaking as someone who only supports from afar these days but still supports I am totally bored with your negativity and sorry attitude!

Justifiable critism is welcome - as long as it is tempered with a recommendation for improvement.

If you are unhappy - put yourself into a position for change.

And I agree with Luddite - you are doing yourself no favours!

I think a lot of this is being misinterpreted.

I understand the views & agree with both PL & BG. Yes we are playing Norwich City and whatever team they send to us will be representing Norwich City and as a Town supporter we should be excited at the prospect of being able to attract a CLUB like Norwich City to play us. However, as seen many times through various media outlets in pre seasons gone by, this type of game would normally be described as Enfield Town v Norwich City XI.

I would be more concerned if we fail to utilise the various media outlets like Sky Sports News, National papers & local outlets to advertise our pre season games than if we play a Norwich 1st XI or 2nd XI.

OMG who the F*** would expect a first team from Wrexham or Norwich??? NO ONE

not even the punters in th pub expect to see their first team players; BUT they are impressed that such clubs would even consider sending reprentation along to a club that is 11 years old, and playing in the premier league (albeit ryman!)

Your the only stupid one, boring and negative. You've nothing valid to say that is any benefit to a Enfield Town Supporter or the club. If you don't like the idea of watching Wrexham or Norwich City team then go shopping or swimming cos i'll be their watching whatever team is fielded, taking in the football education, which either the youngsters have had or admiring the expected superiority the more experienced players show.

I know from our youth section that their is much interest in these games.

Norwich have always been fair with eastern counties sides, and normally bring a very strong side. However, I believe the under 18s are attending Enfield. It will still be a good test though. Looking foreward to seeing you boys next season, I think we can both have good seasons.

Goats is a derogatory nickname for Wrexham I believe, mainly used by Chester. No idea where it comes from. PL's lack of any sort of sense is well documented though...

The nickname is a reference to the tradition of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, who are headquartered in Wrexham, of keeping a regimental goat. Alongside Chester, Shrewsbury and Tranmere also use it. I'm not sure why it's considered derogatory by fans of those teams - maybe Papa Lazarou can enlighten me.

Luddite-Don't engage yourself with PL, he is'nt a ETFC supporter he just makes comments which by tries to tarnish the good name of Enfield Town FC on this forum.

Every genuine Town supporter i've spoken to are looking forward to what we deem one of the Welsh giants of football only behind Swansea City and Cardiff City in current standings. The rich history of a club like Wrexham is one that goes back many years which include great cup victories, v's Arsenal 2-1 Mickey Thomas screamer just to mention one and European football as well. Your club's going through a transitional period which will be put right now the fan's are in control.

All being well Looking forward in welcoming you all, to our friendly place.

Well said EU.

This is an opportunity to welcome new Clubs to The Dome and show how a supporters Club is run.

Luddite, will you be there ?

Looking forward to it. I work in Enfield so went down to Donkey Lane a few times last season and was pretty impressed by the set-up you've got there. It was a pleasant surprise to see that we'd be playing there sooner rather than later.
