Shame I know financially it cuts a cost but long term it makes it harder to bring through and hang on to young players.

True.

They do have a development team these days.

That's good a lot of talent in the area

I think it will be the development team that will play in the Middlesex Charity Cup.

Brentford Football Club are delighted to have been invited to partake in the forthcoming season`s Help for Heroes Charity Cup a competition run under the auspices of the Middlesex County FA.

Lets face it, this competition is going to be another Bedfordshire Senior Challenge Cup, which Luton Town won last season, and they may as well just hand it to Brentford now

Yeah Rhodes, Luton Town won the Beds Senior Cup last season for the FIRST time in 106 years. And of course Watford winning the Herts Senior Cup year after year (which never happens).

Clubs at our level welcome the chance to play against the 'big boys' in these competitions, I'm sure the Middlesex clubs have no objections to the likes of Brentford entering. Lets hope Rhodes will be eating humble pie if his assumptions are proved unfounded once again.

It's similar to Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool entering the FA Trophy except this situation is more extreme as there are six steps/tiers between Brentford and Step 5 Club's such as Hanwell Town

What is your problem with these 'big boys' entering these competitions Rhodes.

Perhaps your should apply for a job with the FA and bring in your personal rulings that forbids it if it really does bug you that much.

No it isn't. The teams you mentioned all enter and participate in their county cup Football association competition. as I believe they are required too for being members of the FA. Your lack of knowledge of even the basics is astounding. Think before you speak and if you are incapable of coherent thought just be quiet

Karen - I don't have a problem but it just seems a bit unfair, what chance have the smaller Club's got of winning the competition with Brentford in it, that's my point as look at Luton Town in the Bedfordshire Senior Challenge Cup

As I keep telling you Numbnuts - Luton Town have won the Beds Senior Cup just ONCE in the 106 years

Or in your fantasy world does that class as totally dominating the competition.

Especially for Rhodes, here are some facts about the Middlesex Charity Cup supporting Help for Heroes:

1) Brentford have never won the competition. Chelsea did three times in four seasons during the late 1980s and early 1990s, but that was in an era when English clubs were banned from European competition. In fact, Brentford have never reached the Final (although they have won the Middlesex Junior Cup back in their earliest days)

2) The Bees last entered this Cup in 2005-06 and were quarter-finalists, so this is not a "new" innovation.

3) Their entry into the competition is designed to raise its profile and, therefore, more money for Help for Heroes (a percentage of gross gate receipts from every tie will be donated to the cause via MCFA). This can only be positive.

As a director of the holders, I would welcome the opportunity to have a Brentford XI play a meaninful match at our ground, as it will be good experience for our young team and should raise interest locally.

A quick visit to the MCFA website would have revealed that the 2011-12 competition raised over £2,000 for Help for Heroes. Having a Football League club involved will boost the Cup, not just through the methods outlined above but by encouraging Conference clubs to re-enter as well (the Charity Cup being an invitational event, distinct from the Senior Challenge Cup). More teams means more games. Bigger clubs will mean higher gates.

More games + higher gates = more money for charity.

I do not believe it is cut and dried that Brentford will win. However, I do think we should applaud the club from Middlesex's County Town for entering a competition that allows local football fans the chance to see proper, old-fashioned cup football while raising valuable funds for a fantastic cause. All of this is good news.

Not in the loop again Rhodes, Brentford are drawn away to Staines Lammas, Hanwell Town travel to Uxbridge.

Should Hanwell meet Brentford then it would be in the Final.
