Brentford Football Club are delighted to have been invited to partake in the forthcoming season`s Help for Heroes Charity Cup a competition run under the auspices of the Middlesex County FA.

The competition, which has been running since 1901 and formally known as the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup, is currently held by Ashford Town (Middlesex) (pictured) and counts Chelsea and Barnet amongst the previous winners.

The 2012-13 competition will see the Bees go into the draw alongside FA Trophy semi-finalists Wealdstone, plus other local non-league clubs including Uxbridge, North Greenford United, Northwood, Hanworth Villa and Hanwell Town. Every match in the competition will raise money for Help for Heroes, with a percentage of gate receipts from each tie being donated to the Charity.

Chief Executive of Middlesex County FA Peter Clayton said: “We are delighted to once again welcome Brentford FC into the Help for Heroes Charity Cup.  Their presence in the competition will create a sense of excitement among our clubs.

“We hope that other clubs will follow Brentford’s lead in entering next season’s competition and help us to raise even more money for Help for Heroes.”

A Brentford spokesman said: “We were honoured to be invited by the County FA to take part, for it not only gives us the opportunity for our Development squad to play against other clubs in the area in competition but at the same time supporting the most worthwhile of charities.”

The 2011-12 season was the first in which Help for Heroes were the beneficiaries of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup and a substantial sum was raised through gate receipts, fundraising activities and bucket collections held at matches.

I recently bought from eBay a Hanwell Town V Chelsea Middlesex Senior Charity Cup programe from the 1994/95 season

How much did that set you back out of interest

Savagebee - Really, that's quite reasonable isn't it, I expected you to say about £50. The most I have ever paid for a programme was £30 for the 1988 Charity Shield, Liverpool v Wimbledon, it's quite rare apparently

If that constitutes 'getting a life' then I'll give it a miss

The Final will of course be played at Griffin Park, what a nice gesture that would be for Help for Heroes, especially in a Charity Cup.

Brentford V Hanwell Town Final i hope. I can see the ground from my window ;-)

Great little ground only one with a pub on each corner, not the best changing rooms or playing surface but a cracking little ground.

I think that answer says it all about you, you're not really a football man in the true sense of the word are you

Yeah its a old skool football ground love it. The pitch has been a lot better the last two seasons since the reserves and Chelsea reserves stop't playing on it.

How would you define it? Me I'd say a player who gave the best years on the pitch and or a supporter who follows his club at most games rain or shine and or someone involved heavily behind the scenes and quietly gets on with it and or a coach or manager who gives up his time and money to organise a team. Many more also. How many of these can you truthfully claim to be? Certainly you can't be a true football man if you are uninvolved and don't even watch games then snipe and belittle others who are doing it from behind a keyboard THAT certainly is an anti football man/person.
