Dunstable wont be the same next season

Great prediction. You were right, we we'rent the same this season. We were better. Much better.

Sometimes when I write on this forum, I feel a bit geeky, but then I see post like this. You've seen a post in May 2012, waited excitedly for almost a whole year to quote it, hoping that Dunstable would win the league, even waiting until it was officially confirmed despite the fact you had the league won months ago.... and then put your smug reply to it!

You, Scottie_DTFC, are a complete NERD. You've almost made Michael HGFC look cool. Almost.

RH, you forgot to mention that they were "better. Much better" this season because they flashed the cheque book at Southern League standard players and bought their way to the title! Good luck to them though, its a great achievement to go through a league season unbeaten, whatever your team. Ironic that they will be replacing a team (Woodford) who have the opposite record, not gaining a point all season!

As for flashing the cash, all teams that have left this league over the past 10 years have flashed the cash and if you think different then you really are naive. It's called AMBITION. If you're happy to play at Step 5 or below then great, but please stop moaning about clubs that want to better themselves.

I seem to remember the Cuckoos moaning about us nicking their players (not step 3 or 4) and with the exception of Fontanelle and Leach, who were let go by Hitchin everyone has been with us from previous seasons, when the budget was even more than this year.

It would be an embarrassment if they were in any other position than unbeaten and top after the OTT money they've spent on players this year.

Have to agree with Scottie its all about ambition,I dont know who RH and SG24 follow (forgive my ignorance) but if the budget became available in your club for a promotion push would you stop supporting your team.? of course not and why should you? Also Royston Aylesbury FC Chavs from St Peter all have had budgets when winning the league and they were never critcised for their ambition. DTFC have had a remarkable season and that achievement should be recognised.

Ambition in Non-League is where the players dig deep and find league winning perfromances for the club (not money) and where the club cleverly allocate resources, bring in big crowds ( ) and strive to make money as a club.

I don't feel being bank rolled by one bloke is ambition.

That's just me.

Ask yourself, if you didn't have the money how many of your current squad would be with you? The word mercanary comes to mind...

Regardless, going unbeaten in a good league is a huge acheivement, and I wish you all the best in the Southern League next season. Well done for bringing some attention for the SSML, and thanks for representing us.

Leighton Town, Potters Bar Town, Oxford City, Thame United, Aylesbury, Chalfont St Peter and Royston Town just a number of clubs from the South Midlands League in the past thirty years who have used large budgets to progress up the non-league footballing ladder and with the exception of probably Thame United all are thriving so hat's off to Dunstable Town and good luck in your ambitions.

So what is OTT? What figure do you believe the Dunstable Town budget to be and I'll tell you how far out you are.

Having watched many games at this level, I'd say with the standard of football, referees, attendences etc, no player in this league is really worthy of getting paid anything over £20-£25 a game/week (and even that is generous). I'm pretty sure Dunstable are paying much more than that from what I've heard, with some players earning into the hundreds???!

Got no problem with ambition, just think it's quite OTT and you could get out of the league with a lot less money than that.

And to come on here and gloat about it like it's a massive achievement is just a bit funny, what else were you were expecting??

After managing to avoid the question almost as well as the buffoon in your avatar, we have now established that your "OTT" statement is based on hearsay. When you have facts please come back and compare notes. At least in Karen, we have one member of the forum who is a realist.

I heard it from a Dunstable player, and he's one of the most honest men I know. My problem isn't the fact they've spent money to go up like everyone seems to be picking at, no one would refuse money for their club, we'd all love it. It's coming on here and gloating about it, quoting an old message from May 2012! You had a good amount of money to use, bought players from league's above, have ex-football league players in your team (not one's in their late 30's/40's) and you are bragging about it like it's a massive achievement. All I'm saying is don't get too carried away with winning the Spartan South Midlands Prem.

You better get to know RH, he talks most sense on this forum. I would love a big budget and would support my team. We are all ambitious, everyone wants to do well. But there's ambition and then there's coming on a forum and boasting, I'm pointing out the latter.

If my team had a lot of money, I'd expect them to be able to get out of this league. I wouldn't go to games and film them, accompanying it with bubblegum chart music in the background, chant chavvy songs with 6 mates and act like my team are World Cup winners. I'd just get along to the games and enjoy them in a humble manner.
