Roll on roll off subs

Recommended Posts

Heard this might be introduced into Division 2 next season and is being adopted by a number of local Sunday leagues. Any one heard this or more details as to how it would work?

Is it April 1st ??? Obviously when you're in my shape & condition Roll on, roll off subs is great, but I only get wheeled out for the odd charity game or Vets match now.

It's also useful in pre-season when you have big squads, but to have in competitive matches ?

I would be completely against this especially at Step 7 or above. Can't see a problem in Sunday football, although it will slow the game down with too many substitutions.

Thanks Karen, hopefully won't affect Div 2 then, but guess it could be brought in for the reserve leagues if so desired.

Just think of the injury time you'd have to add if there were 30 substitutions in a game and with only 1 match official for the reserves it would be a nightmare. Would they have to do the usual studs & jewelery check each time just in case the players have changed boots etc while they've been off the field? Booked players coming back on the pitch with a new shirt.

You can add a whole new tactical game to slow down or disrupt play by making subs each time the ball goes out of play. fine for a friendly but more down sides than up in a competitiive situation in my opinion.

At least the fat wheezy kid can run around for 5 mins before having a rest. Hey could be a good idea after all

I've seen the Standard Code of Rules for next season and this is something that will not be appearing in my Competition.

Utter nonsense.

You will wear out the substitution boards by the end of September. :D

Bit mickey mouse isn't it? We'll be introducing time outs, flags on the play, four quarters, marching bands, cheerleaders, the american flag and anthem and offensives and defences next!

The FA need to get back to getting the basics right before our national game loses all recognition.

The idea is for Youth 16-18 year olds that are leaving the 11v11 game and playing more 5-a-side matches Mon to Sunday 7 days a week.

To help encourage participation not competition.

Hence not applicable at Step 7 and higher.

Wonder if this rule/law will apply to Charity Games/Pre Season Friendlies. We ran into this problem last year when we organised a Charity Match,Fans Focus X1 V Bedfont Sports and was told only 3 subs could be used,it also applies to Pre-Season Friendlies. This surely negates the purpose of them surely?

Can't say how long it will take to filter down but Bloated Blatter is (unsurprisingly given an English team beat a german one in the Champions League Final) said to be unhappy with penalty shootouts. Following 120 minutes he will be introducing several methods to spice things up including the multi ball system, 1 player from each team coming off every five minutes until teams are down to five-a-side, additional goal posts and keepers every ten minutes until a golden goal is scored!!!

Sounds like he's been playing too much Crash Bash.

I personally cannot see the FA's argument that allowing Roll on Roll Off will encourage more young players to stay in 11 a side football as adults - how will it achieve this?

Keep it in Youth & Vets Football. My Sunday League is trialing it and as a ref, i am not looking forward to administering it!!!

If substitutes have to be named before kick-off then every player, including the starting 11, have to be named.

Do you get team sheets before kick-off and if not how can you monitor it so as to comply with Laws of the Game or am I missing some point?

Should be allowed for Vets age players still trying to hang on to their youth.........
