Ex CCL player.......

Recommended Posts

....Jermaine McGlashan tonight made it to the League Two play-off final at Wembley with Cheltenham. Jermaine scored in both legs of the semi finals and also was man of the match against Man Utd this season when they met in the 4th round of the League Cup.

Moral of the story is that with the right attitude, commitment and determination young players can make a career out of playing football. I worked with Jermaine whilst he was at Raynes Park Vale and he has a great attitude to football, one of which is hard to find nowadays. Good luck to him.

A story like this is always worth pointing out , even though I remember him being mentioned a few months ago on the thread about CCL players now in the league.

Great stuff, and even better as he is ex RPV.

Jermaine played for a few CCL clubs. Good attitude but surprised he has done so well upon the times I saw him play. Think its about being in the right place at the right time and who you know.

He has obviously come along way since then, so good luck to the lad. Playing at Wembley is more than some players have achieved in their whole career, so its a time to savour, take in and enjoy.

A good lad who didn't sit back and prefer to play with his mates........maybe a lesson learnt for others !

I think he only played for RPV, Merstham were Ryman but I stand to be corrected.

I also believe he pushed himself to pro level by putting himself forward for trials. Not about right place right time in this case. Jermaine has done it all himself and he deserves a pat on the back, if only other youngsters had his ambition and attitude.

Totally agree YV

Had Jermaine (or JJ as we called him then) at Merstham with me in Ryman 1 and his attitude is the main reason he has got himself to where he is currently. He was electric for us at the start of the season and with him and Michael Gordon on the wings they were unstoppable majority of the time. Both cracking lads to manage as well

There are a lot of very good non league players who could go higher but don't have the right attitude unfortunately. Yes it helps knowing people or being in the right place at the right time but if you consistently have the right attitude you will get there in the end.

Good luck to JJ next Sunday, if I don't manage to get to Wembley for the game then i'll certainly be watching him on tv

Yep true, I know Jeff who's now reaching his peak. Knew him when he was a Reading. Believe he started his career with another CCL club Molesey, he also played for Hayes and then Yeading.......I think if my memory serves me well, or was it Hayes & Yeading ?

Correct Chris. ISTR that he was on loan from Kingstonian to RPV or were they their ressies at the time. Either way, Graeme brought him to Mertsham in our second year in the Ryman. He got spotted when we thumped Hastings 1-5 among other impressive displays and moved to Ashford (Middx) and then on to trials at Southampton before joining Aldershot then onto Cheltenham in January.

He started the game at the weekend but didn't really get enough of the ball and all their chances fell to their other winger who didn't have his shooting boots on.

Thought he was poor in possession as well.... not his day, but a day to rememeber being at Wembley ! All this 'cos he didn't want to play with his mates ....ambitious ;) !

I was at Wembley on Sunday and McGlashan's extended family were sat a few rows behind me. As you say he didn't see enough of the ball, as he always looked dangerous when he did receive it. The other winger, Kaid Mohammed, played for Wimbledon in the Conference final last year (missed a pen in the shoot out!) but didn't have the best of games.

He was on loan to RPV, we had a few that season including Rob Sheridan, Tom Dilloway and Ross Chalke. RPV reserves were used as K's reserves and had a few of K's youngsters in along with RPV players. The first team was never classed as K's reserves.

I'm delighted that Kaid's had the chance of League Football again - he's one of the most determined and hard working players I've met.

He began his career at my home-town club of Cwmbran Town and after impressing at Carmarthen he got a trial with Wrexham. However, he declined them and went to Swindon only to be released. Now he's back in League 2 after impressing at Bath City.

It just shows that there are some cracking players at Non League level!

Looked a bit raw but certainly has pace with and without the ball. Had a great chance of scoring after being to quick on the turn against the opposing centre back but his strike was weak unfortunately......bet he bever played with his mates either ......ambitious and determined.....LOL :P !!!
