More Expense!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

As if they do not generate enough cash from Fining Players, the F.A.are going to FINE CLUBS further. This has been mooted as under the 'Respect Campaign'but will only apply from Step 5 downwards. If a Clubs Players get cautioned 15 times for dissent and abusive language,A fine will be levied. If it reaches 20 a further fine will be issued.

Good News though--Costings were being worked out for Feeder League Referee Assessor Schemes, and the F.A. was looking at a Pooling System for appointments at Step 5.

Further Good News--An increase IN THE FUNDING from the Football Stadium improvements Fund was now a distinct possibility.Among new projects under consideration were Irrigation and Rain Harvesting Schemes.(NO NOT JUST A FORK AND BUCKET).Budweiser were also considering grants at Step 5/6/7.

If you get booked 15 times for dissent, then you have some real personal issues. I wouldn't play a player with that many cards for opening his mouth, you couldn't guarentee he'd still be on the pitch at the end.

Hope that budweiser share the love with some other clubs not just Wembley

I just hope that respect is a two-way street, as I've seen a few referees in my time who I'd consider to be 'suspect.'

I can remember playing in a match in Cambridge in about 2000, where the referee we had was one of the worst referees I had ever met. Worse than Shapter and Rennie in my opinion. From the kick-off, he gave decision after decision to the opposition and even they seemed embarrassed when one of their defenders barged our main striker over on the penalty spot only for the referee to issue a goal kick!

Once we started complaining, the cards were flashed left right and centre. At half-time we were 2-0 down and had 6 players (including myself for asking the referee what planet he was from) booked and the gaffer nearly knocked the referee sideways. We very nearly refused to play the second half, and the manager kept us in the changing room past the bell.

Second half, we lost 5-0 and all hell broke loose. The gaffer threatened legal action, as three of our players got badly whacked (no bookings for those players who caused the bruises, accidental or otherwise) plus we ended up with nine men on the field when hardly any of the bookings were fair. The referee said 'well i'm not accountable to you, and besides my union will back me so get stuffed.'

That referee showed us no respect at all - he bullied us (and yes I would categorise it as bullying) and was allowed to get away with it. All we got back from the league was guidance on how to control our players better.

Referees = Angels, Players = Devils. I wonder just how many Ref's bet on games (yes, even at Steps 5 & 6 and below).

I had the excuse of having Tourettes given to me by a player . I told the player I would not submit the report if he showed me some medical evidence of his condition. I'm sure you can guess the outcome! I am in favour of any steps that may help reduce issues around dissent and the general lack of respect given to officials or opposing players. It makes a challenging job all the more difficult. I do know of some CCFL clubs who internally fine players if they pick up cautions for dissent.

I actually think this is a good idea, might help reduce the amount of dissent. However, the FA have missed a trick here. The Policy should apply across ALL football inc. The Premier League, with the fines scaled accordingly. Fine the Big Boys a decent sum and then they have a hope of it working. Perhaps a £500,000 for a Premier club?

Surely abusive language should be a red card?

Its cautions across the team, not just one player.

Good. Perhaps it will make players think twice !!!

I quite agree, Kroons.

Maybe if clubs withheld payments, or even fined players for consistent cards for dissent, this might rectify the situation.

We did this last season. We carefully monitored the fines that came though the FA and deducted payments from the rather meagre expenses budget for "Respect" related indiscretions. It actually transpired that the number of bookings for dissent etc was quite small. Our lowly position in the Ryman League Respect table was more to do with what they call technical area behaviour i.e. the bench.

Didn't the person responsible for most of your technical area problems leave mid-season?

That could be seen by some as adding two and two together. The answer may be four.

Hornchurch 'O'

From your post it could be inferred that while you believe dissent in the face of the officials (confrontational) is not ok, dissent at a distance (non-confrontational) is ok. Is that what you meant?
