pre season friendlies

Recommended Posts

Problem with attracting the pro clubs is that most of them have season after season ties with other clubs already. Borehamwood, Wealdstone and ST Albans attract some of the same clubs each pre season. I am aware that the club has put out some invites to some of our local pro sides from all divisions. All we can do is hope.

This is where I feel the council missed a great opportunity to help continue their support for us with Spurs. When Spurs were granted planning permission for their new training complex in Bulls Cross, the council should have put in some guarantees for a partnership project between Spurs & the borough of Enfield with one being a regular pre season friendly with us.

At the moment its looking like a pre season of how many times have we met before with Potters Bar, Cheshunt & Boring Wood (exception being Wrexham). It would be nice to see Barnet & a proper football league/premier league side visit us! I remember the days when we had Arsenal, West Ham & West Brom for pre season fixtures!

Andy - I'm not knocking the council, I am obviously delighted that they gave us the green light for the QE stadium, I was just trying to make a point that they missed an opportunity to use a big Premier League club to help enhance the London Borough of Enfield which includes us!

Steph - You know what I am referring to!

Cookie Monster - I am not expecting a full strength side from the premier league, however playing a club from said division will again help raise the profile of Enfield Town, the local community will see & hear we are playing a Spurs XI or an Arsenal XI etc and will probably be more inclined to come and watch this than us at home to Boreham Wood or someone of equal measure.

I am not sure how the club goes about it and if it incurs a fee but having our pre season friendlies listed on sky sports news etc again raises the profile. I've seen over the years clubs I've never heard of popping up on sky sports news pre season friendlies fixture list.

That's if he's still at Norwich City next season.

Some good friendlies there, great to see the club getting some different pre season friendlies and a premier league side to top it off. The Norwich friendly is advertised on the website as Norwich City and not a Norwich XI so one would presume some first team/squad players to be playing rather than a Norwich u18 side.

I'm also looking forwards to the St Albans friendly and with Dave 'Rambo' Howell & Paul Furlong both at the club will be great to see them both again!
