Never saw that coming.

 

Nice move though-24 teams in ryman premiership in 2013/14.

4 additional mouthwatering games.

marginally harder to get relegated (thank god for that) but harder to get promotion

 

Reading the follow up article in NLP,it may be me-but their explanation of how relegation/promotion will thus work in 2012/13 is about as clear as mud.

 

Does anyone know how many go up dowm from ryman premiership/conf this coming season ?

The article did not seem to cover the relegation from level 3 issue. It did say that only 1 club will be relegated from level 4 next season instead of 2 as that is also moved to 24 clubs so on that basis assume 2 club relegation next season instead of 4 from level 3 to adjust numbers to 24. This has come about because of an inability to adjust level 5 to 12 divisions so what do they do - mess around with level 3 and 4 and keep the level 5 divisions as they are!

Bad move. Means even more midweek games on Champions League nights = poor crowds. Another nail in the coffin of cup competitions, especially the Trophy. No team with a chance of promotion is going to risk a cup run, otherwise they'll be playing three times a week from March onwards.

A way to deal with that would be to start the season earlier in line with the conference and Football league. This season the FL started on the 6th August whilst the Ryman started on the 20th. This would mean that teams coulds play two games a week at the start, when there is still interest in the new season and also crowds would probably be up with the better weather. With the increased cup matches early on, I have never understood the late start in non league. One problem could be the extension of contracts.

Thats a relief then.

 

Confirmed over the weekend at the 'brighton conference' that its only 'two down' next season.

 

We should be good enough to finish at least 20th surely ?
