Slough Observer Poll

Staines, I really wish you'd stop with all this "forum mafia" rubbish. This forum is as open as any to 'positive' or 'negative' comments.

I don't think that the 'forum mafia' bit is rubbish at all. There are clearly a number of posters who try and discourage others from expressing their point of view.

Most of you are all nuts. Why do you have to have an opinion which is demoralising to the management and club.

If I were the manager and chairman I would say shove it and let you lot take over.

None of you know what goes on behind the scenes. You have no ground, pay rent, proberbly struggle for income, but come second in the league.

Your not true supporters just stirring the crap.

There is a saying keep opinions to your self or say something that motivates the chairman, manager and club.

Don't come out with this is an open forum and we can say what we like.

It bloody hurts can't you see that.

Every Slough fan believes in Steve Easterbrook's efforts and the board in general. They also know that the Supporters Trust try their best for Slough supporters.

We don't need St Neot's fans telling us anything about Slough Town FC. Thank you very much.

Whether you like it or not, Steve Bateman hasn't done everything right since he's been at our club [three and a half years] but hasn't done all bad, either.

So some of us,supporters, have doubts about whether he'll ever get our team to be champions of the Central League.

He has, however, proven to be a good enlister of estabilished non-league players,a good man-manager and a manager who mostly tries to play decent enough football rather than playing long ball stuff. So for these latter efforts I welcome him, having another shot or two [1 or 2 seasons since our last game] in trying to get Slough promoted.

But let's not be fooled that there are no other potential managers around, who with the budget Steve has had, couldn't have done the job, just as well or even better.

Then again,of course, it could have been a lot worse !

From my own selfish point of view, I don't know why we're in such a rush to be promoted. This league suits our size crowds, has plenty of derbies[local matches] and wouldn't do us any harm being in it, till the new stadium is built.

We therefore, could and should have been endeavouring to be bring a few youngsters through, rather than keep paying out on older, ageing players.

The problem we have,as a club,is we cannot make up our mind whether we are a big Non-League team or a smaller one with a great pedigree.

If we all lowered our lofty expectations, then perhaps we could start building for rosier future and not be hung-up with these quick-fix,expensive solutions.

3spirit,

I'm not sure what you mean by 'this league suits our size crowds'?

Apart from St Neots and maybe Rugby most of the other teams home and especially away attendances are quite poor.

Without looking I'm sure our home attendances and away following would stack up quite well with the next step up and that's without the extra numbers we would more than likely get if we did get promoted.

What I was trying to get over,Reading Rebel, is that I can't see Slough picking up loads more supporters while we're ground sharing and so if we did get to the Southern Premier, our budget will have to rise but do we get value for money under Steve Bateman?

I was trying to get the point across that since Steve Bateman has been at our club,we've only managed to see one homegrown talent make the team. That being Mo Shariff and that was more luck than judgement on Steve's part, it took awhile for the penny to drop before Steve recognised that Mo's speed made his team into a better prospect.

I don't want to see a whole team of untried novices but being that we should be a bit prudent in these recession hit times,we could have had several youngsters coming of age by now, for our 1st team squad but in 3 and a half years of SB's reign,

where are they?

Our problem is we're trying to buy the best players from teams around us to make our team a success every season. This is adding to the weight of expectation of us,fans, and pressurizing the players and management to achieve.

I've enjoyed the football Steve Bateman has brought to the club and he has given us all a lift in the advancement of our team's progress.

Unfortunately, though, some of his tried and tested methods of recruitment are not bringing the rewards, that the financial pay-out deserves.

So perhaps we should adopt a different strategy to get Slough promoted. Maybe a three-year plan for promotion, either under Steve Bateman or someone else.

Now let me see have I got this right.

This is an open forum where everyone can express how they feel.

I for one don't agree with negative comments, I dont see how it helps. I also dont like critisizing individual players or the coaching staff on this web site but that is just MY opinion BUT if I try and discourage others from doing this (obviously I cant make them) I am seen as a bully or part of the forum mafia.

Good god I am scary!

3 Spirit: you are a man of many words, but not a lot of action ( as has been shown this season).

Poppycock,Windsor Rebel. You don't know me,so how do you know what I've done or not done !

In actual fact, I have sponsored two players this season and have an advert in the programme and I pay at the gate like everyone else.

Doesn't mean I'm any better or worse than any other supporter but I think it show's my heart's in the right place concerning Slough Town FC, the team we all follow, regardless to what opinion I hold or voice.

My observation was that a forum needs ALL opinions, regardless of whether they're popular or not .

OK its good to see you supporting the club by sponsoring players and having an advert in the programme. Very admirable.

However, you might learn a litlle more about the manager and his tactics if you had the balls to speak to him face to face.

Also, I thought we were going to meet for a drink after seven games in, or was that hot air as well?

Looks like Windsor Rebel has joined the forum mafia and is dictating the clubs line regardless of the suitability of the manager.

Bateman is not up to the job and maybe too many fans have got too close to the management to see the truth.

As I make a point of not staying to have a drink and get pally with the players and management I have ensured that the beer is not clouding my judgement.

However I dont agree with the papers jumping on the bandwagon as they only $hit stir and look for easy stories with the minimum of work required - parasites!

Just believe in supporting the club, manager and players, rather than being a keyboard detactor, is there anything

wromg with that Burger and Chips?

Sue that was exactly the point I was going to make before I stuffed up my last post.

Back in my school days, I remember when we used to have debates and people would vote on the question before discussing it. People would then speak for and against the motion and at the end of the debate you'd vote again to see if opinion shifted. You'd "win" if people were swayed to your side of the motion.

Now in my view that is what happens on here, there is an issue, people will debate it and occasionally someone will change their mind. Cookham Rebel was on here soon after the SYCOB game calling for changes but after a bit of time and debate has come round to a slightly softer position. Other people are completely entrenched in their opinion and so be it that is their perrogative.

But I really don't believe there is any "forum mafia" in place - it is simply a case of people disagreeing which fortunately we are entitled to do.

We are lucky that this forum is so liberally moderated although at times I do think they should crack down harder on the dissenters ;-)

Look Windsor Rebel,I do not drink alcohol at games but would have no problem meeting up with you in the ground.I think we were going to meet halfway through the season. As time passed didn't think it necessary to meet,as it wasn't as if we were in constant conversation. No offence mean't.Not hiding from you or anyone.

I would be delighted to have a conversation face to face with Steve Bateman and hopefully, next season the programme will run a meet the manager page or have a meet up between fans and management[public forum].

What I don't want to do,though,is get in silly slanging tit for tats with disgruntled players/coaches/managers ,like the unfairly vilified Cookham Rebel has been . There's no point in that.
