My England Euro 2012 Squad - What's Yours?

Recommended Posts

Butland's done well for Cheltenham, but surely too soon to expect him to come up against the world's best? A few years and perhaps he'll be ready :).

how many times has the 3rd choice keeper been needed. I don't even think the 2nd choice will be needed. if it happened i'm sure the manager would get real stick for taking a kid to the euro's but you'd be proper unlucky.

Could have done with one in the 1970 world cup finals......

In Joe Hart we have one of the best keepers in Europe at the moment and has the ability to save games on his own. I have selected two full backs that like to push on and have the ability and engines to do so. They will emulate the current Eoropean way of playing and safe in the knowledge that Scott Parker will be playing a holding role to allow them to progress up the pitch. Gerrard and Lampard have never been able to play together as they both like to get forward but with Scott Parker in there they can do what they have done week in week out at club level. They are both a threat in and around the oppo box. Again playing three in the middle will match what European football is all about at the moment. Two wide men in Lennon, who would love a chance to prove his worth and I have to say as a Yid he is in top form and looking very dangerous. On the other side Adam Johnson, skillful, creative and a goalscorer, stuggling to get in at MC due to the quality of the players around him however more than capable of making an impression in the Euros. Peter Crouch up top supported by the wide men, backed up by full backs crossing balls in and Lamps and Gerrard to play back to. His goalscoring record speaks for itself and we have lacked a target man in the last few games. I remember Sven putting on Darius Vassell against Portugal when Rooney got injured and we got battered because we were lumping the ball 60 foot forward with him and Owen up top whilst leaving Heskey on the bench.

Defensively we have three of the back four that play together week in week out so a good understanding between them going into a tournament.

Subs are mainly straight swaps but can adjust to to other formations, Rooney would be okay for holding the ball up also for short [censored].

GKs, Robinson(only ever done one thing wrong) for experience and Buckland for a learning curve, as mentioned before we would be very unlucky to have to get down to using the third keeper.

Anyone want to query and players included then fire away.

As long as Scholes doesn't go the squad is OK.

Why ?

Has experience, sits deep and a great distributor of passes both short and long, very rarely gives the ball away, something some other English players should learn. He has been instrumental in United's revival to aty least stand a chance of winning the Prem and he has scored a few goals to boot.

He will be a good assest for the younger players to learn from but of course 'cos of his age he won't go plus will Roy try to get him out of international reyirement.....I doubt it !

An excellent player, one of Britain's all time best in my opinion....

Good player yes but he's been retired for 8 years so going back to him is desperate. (It wasn't so much for Man U because he'd only been gone for 7 months and he was training with the squad every day, and they did have a lot of injuries in that position. Though Sir Alex should really have bought CMs rather than both Jones and Young). And he's never been much of an athlete, so he's certainly not one now. The French, Dutch, Italian (if De Rossi plays) and German midfields are way too powerful for him and the Spanish triangles will get him sent off.

Also, if he plays, I doubt he'll play as well for as long at Man U next season than if he misses it. (Giggs can use the Olympics as pre-season.)

I'd take Carrick though.

BTW, Giggs should quit now, every year he plays on makes a mockery of him being sports personality of the YEAR in 2009 (decade or lifetime yes), and we don't want Dame Lizzie fricking Armitstead before he's knighted do we?!

Would anyone take Joe Cole?

Take him where, Chris ???

I might if he was buying.

He's got more money than me !!

There is a rumour that Joe Cole is going to be included....

I am all for taking a U21 'keeper as this would prove valuable experience for him and the chances of actually having to play him are very slim.

At least Rio can have the summer off, hes used to taking a break from Football! He can thank his club manager for his non-selection.

I do not think its right that Scholes should be considered, he retired a long time ago (his choice) and to recall him just for this tournament is plainly wrong. Just like it was wrong to recall Carragher just for the last World Cup. Fine if they want to come out of retirement but there needs to be a bigger commmitment to playing for your country then just one tournament.

If Roy's tactics are like they were at Liverpool then I think I will change my allegiances to France! :)

Had forgot about Joe Cole! Maybe he'll play if Parker doesn't get the nod (think he's injured and doubtful for the tournament?)

One player I would take, if I was in charge, is Peter Whittingham of Cardiff City. A brilliant midfielder who can play anywhere across midfield and also score goals.

Damn you Jurgs, there are a few mistakes in there. Bloody iPhone responsible for some, I will hold my hands up to this one. No excuses, I bow my head, it is supposed to be Andy Cole ;)

Apparently Richards is being left out as well as Walker being injured, personally Simpson, not Johnson (Glen), would be my next choice.

Richards would be best though, he could also cover at centre-back and indeed Eriksson preferred him there when he was City manager.

A real wild one would be former City man Onuoha, whom we should buy back as a squad defender (he's better than Savic).

HKP, what about Nedved, who returned for the playoffs to get the Czechs into the 2006 WC and played in the tournament itself but then retired straight after? (Mind you he had only been retired for just over a year.)

no place for Dom Heaume or Zico Black and Ross Allen was snubbed in favour of Andy Carroll

Can't say i'm disappointed as I don't want any summer time injuries and the lads deserve a rest but clearly Roy needs to send his scouts further a field and get himself to more games!

Not too far off. 3 of the standby players are in the full squad, and technically i swapped Foster for Ruddy, when he confirmed his retirement.

Still dont think its right or fair on players who make themselves available to get the team there.
