My England Euro 2012 Squad - What's Yours?

Recommended Posts

Smudge, imagine the media backlash if Rio and Anton were left behind and John Terry went to Euro 2012.

You know what the BBC and Sky are like - it would be 'oh how racist, this cannot be so.... it sends out SO many wrong messages.'

The media is judge, jury and executioner and if Roy did choose Terry and neither Ferdinand then he'd be slagged off by the Facebook and Twitter mobs.

As for Henderson I said maybe - look, people are going to say 'you can't choose x or y or z because they're crap.' That's just your opinion, and no I'm not having a pop but we are short of quality and I mean quality that would put us level with Brazil. When some academies here are little more than 'finishing schools' for foreign up-and-coming talents, is it any wonder we're not producing quality players like we used to.

Hopefully the new academy at Burton will help to combat this, but more money is needed in grass roots as that is where the next World Cup winners will come from.

The media get very little right with their Hype, but they backed Harry to the hilt, how wrong were they. The F.A. had no intention of ever picking him in the first place, due to his background. He was a Terry Fan which did not help either.Marvels me that Anton Ferdinand is ever mentioned in an England squad.he is Championship at best,Rio is not the player he was either due to injuries.England without John Terry would stand no chance,he is a born leader,Ashley Cole is in the form of his life, but both have been slated by the press, for off field matters, but neither have failed to take a drug test when asked. We do have short memories in Football.

Born leader or not Terry is past it and nowhere near good enough !!! Add into that he is just a nasty piece of work.

I get what you are saying about Ferdinand and I wouldnt take him either. Lets give some young lads some experience at a tournament so we can build going forward. I would take a few of the current squad but I am afraid at Centre Back we need to take some newer faces.

completly agree. Rio has been carried by whoever was partnering him at CB for Manure. Injuries have ruined what was a very good player.

Listen we are not going to win Euro 2012. anyone who thinks otherwise, have been bamboozled by Carslberg adverts. So lets groom players who will be there or there about in RIo in 2 years.

For the first two games I would pick (and bear in mind I have had to reshuffle ;) ):

Hart; Cole; Walker; R. Ferdinand; Jones; Young; Walcott; Milner; Lampard; Holt; Welbeck (4-4-2 with advanced wingers)

Subs: Robinson; Cahill; Lescott; Baines; Gerrard; Oxlade-Chamberlain; Crouch.

Depending on how well the front two perform, keep or drop one of them when Rooney is able to return.

I thought, with Roy's announcement coming up next week, i would try and put mine down, and see how difficult it was.

What's your thoughts, and what's your sqaud look like

Keepers:

Joe Hart;Ben Foster:Jack Butland

Here Joe is clear choice as number 1, and Ben is a very capable backup. the 3rd choice and mirroring what other nations do, is our U21 Keeper, and this will give him good tournament exposure, without the pressure of needing to play.

Thought Foster had "retired" from International football as he was not getting picked?

yeah there was rumour that uncle roy could get him out of retirement, but seen today, he's again said he's not up for selection. That being the case, i've just rung up John Ruddy and called him up. He's delighted.

Butland's done well for Cheltenham, but surely too soon to expect him to come up against the world's best? A few years and perhaps he'll be ready :).

how many times has the 3rd choice keeper been needed. I don't even think the 2nd choice will be needed. if it happened i'm sure the manager would get real stick for taking a kid to the euro's but you'd be proper unlucky.
