My England Euro 2012 Squad - What's Yours?

I thought, with Roy's announcement coming up next week, i would try and put mine down, and see how difficult it was.

 

What's your thoughts, and what's your sqaud look like

 

Keepers:

Joe Hart;Ben Foster:Jack Butland

 

Here Joe is clear choice as number 1, and Ben is a very capable backup. the 3rd choice and mirroring what other nations do, is our U21 Keeper, and this will give him good tournament exposure, without the pressure of needing to play.

 

Defenders:

Kyle Walker;Glen Johnson;Ashley Cole;Leigton Baines;Gary Cahill;Joleon Lescott;Phil Jones;Chris Smalling

 

No real place for JT or RF, as they won't be around for the WC. This is full of youth, and they will gain good tourny experience.

 

Midfielders

Steven Gerrard;Ashley Young;Scott Parker;Theo Walcott;Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin;Jordon Henderson;Michael Carrick;Nathan Dyer

 

Again sticking with a young squad, if Wilshire & Rodwell were available, i would leave out MC and JH playing with a 4-3-3 Young and Walcott would actually be part of the forward line. Leaving you a solid 3 in the middle of SG;SP;MC

No place for Frank Lampard in this squad, but could easily be changed for Carrick

 

Strikers

Wayne Rooney;Andy Carroll;Danny Welbeck;Daniel Sturridge;

 

Only really need 1 leading the line, Welbeck has done this well with Rooney, but for the start would go with Caroll, and let the like of Walcott, Young or Sturridge to feed off of him.

 

 

This squad is flexible to different formations, and also gives some of the younger players a chance to shine, and reward people like Dyer for a great season, a list of reserves would include

 

Scott Sinclair

Leon Brittain ( Who has talent by the way )

Frank Lampard

John Terry

Micah Richards

Phil Jagielka

Leon Osman

Peter Crouch

Bobby Zamora

 

So decimate at your will, but lets have a mature debate about this, thankless task that Uncle Roy has.

I would find it strange to have all this pace around and then have Carroll up top. he wouldnt be able to keep up to score the goals. I reckon Striker will be the biggest problem.

Johnson, hasn't been playing at all for Man C, agree he's a good player. Why do we all overlook Nathan Dyer, doing an amazing job at Swansea. Is it just because Swansea aren't a fashionable club, or do we somehow think they won't be good enough. They smashed us at their place, and Dyer was very instrumental in that. Same as Scott Sinclair?

Hasn't Foster retired from International football??

 

And how you can put G Johnson in ahead of either Walker or Richards is beyond me. He is a liability at RB in the PL never mind international level!

Who's Joe Bennett, also Wilshire is officially ruled out, so isn't eligable. As is Jack Rodwell. Smalling has just pulled out, so you'll need a tweak.

OK, Wilshere, Rodwell and Smalling out and Parker, Milner and maybe Terry in if he patches things up with Rio and Anton Ferdinand. Can't see that Rio would be happy playing alongside Terry after what happened with Anton. Would have included Ross Barkley too but he's not had many games for Everton.

 

If Foster has retired then perhaps Frank Fielding could be given the nod. I'm not choosing Robert Green after World Cup 2010!

 

I've already put Walker in the team, and I'd take Johnson before Micah Richards. Richards loves himself too much, and I've seen him put in a few stinkers performance-wise too!

 

Joe Bennett plays for Middlesbrough and is very highly rated - plays an Ashley Cole/Gael Clichy type role and is already established in the England Under 21s.

 

What it does show is that England are very short on quality, and that the same old faces will go to Euro 2012 regardless.

Typical ridiculous attitude towards keepers.

Rob Green is very good keeper. Makes few errors, unfortunately he made one at the wrong time.

He's been superb all season. Foster and Fielding are both error prone

 

And I can't believe someone put Jordan Henderson in !
