Early Expectations

Recommended Posts

I know we are all still celebrating the excellent success & achievements by everyone at the club this season and I'd like to echo the congratulations that everyone else has passed on to the players, management, board, groundsman, supporters and everyone who has volunteered not only this season but from the outset, their time to start, build and continue the success of OUR club!

I know it's very early doors but I just wanted to hear what fellow supporters' objectives are for next season? Do we expect a season fighting relegation, is it about consolidating a place in the ryman prem with a mid table finish or do we believe we have what it takes to challenge for a play off place or maybe even the title?

I know as a club we want to be aiming high and as one supporter I would like to see us in a position that see's us in and around the play off's come this time next season. I'm sure the club has short & long term goals and I would expect the short term to be establish ourselves as a ryman prem side for next season + 1 and maybe within the next 3-5years be at conference south or conference national level.

What are your views & expectations for next season?

Whilst play offs would be great, I feel that when you enter any competition you should set out to win it. We have a great and talented squad and our support is growing. Who knows? You're allowed to dream and sometimes dreams can come true!!

There are some big teams with big budgets in the Premier. But Steve and the ETFC squad proved that chucking money around doesn't always guarantee success. Team spirit is what counts.

Reality check is 18th place or above. Anything else is a bonus.

Of the teams who have gone up VIA the play offs since 07 harlow and w abbey have come back down

I'll settle for mid table, continuing to build and promote the club coupled with a nice FA Cup run to face a Conference side? This with a bundle of seaside trips will be quality. The glory days are back

Consolidation gets my vote, there are no short cuts barring the obvious money man and thats not for us. Gradual progress in the Premier, steady increase through the turnstyles and we wont go far wrong.

When we got promoted from the Essex Senior League, we set out to be no more than competitive, strengthening in a few key areas, and then just playing our natural game. Three months later, oh whoops.... we're second! I think that a similar approach would be wise this time, and we might pleasantly surprise ourselves again.

I'm with Happy on this one. Try to finish as high as possible, ideally 1st. After all, how do you "consolidate"? Do you deliberately try NOT to win a certain number of games? No, of course not, you try to win every game (except in the Europa League...), that's the idea of it.

Expectations are a duffeent matter. I do not expect us to win the league, or even finish in the play-offs: but we might, we just might. As Ms Harry once opined, dreaming is free, and without it quite frankly football is a bit pointless.

I'm confident that with a bit of luck and continued prudent running of the club we can be a conference south side within 5 years. There's no reason to be afraid of any side in the ryman prem. We're growing at the right pace and (barring an FA Cup run to swell the coffers,) should aim for top half next season - probably 60 points.

First post, have enjoyed watching the Town since the move to the Donkey Dome.

Have been looking at how we might finish next season, paying particular attention to where teams have finished in past RPL seasons in relation to their average attendance. It struck me that at this level, an extra 200 through the gates every fortnight can mean being able to afford 2,3 or 4 better players than they might otherwise have.

Just looking at last season, here's the top 7 (min crowd, max, avg and position)

1 Lowestoft Town 457 1,066 668 3

2 Lewes 347 1,013 634 6

3 Billericay Town 233 1,145 514 1

4 Wealdstone 376 876 502 4

5 Bury Town 310 868 420 5

6 Hastings United 248 689 378 18

7 Canvey Island 262 763 375 8

Does anyone know what we've averaged since the move to the QEII?

We played 14 league games at QE2.

5531 Att

Average 395.

Add in the 2 play off games.

6975 Att

Average over 16 = 436.

If we could get the average league figure up by 200 = 595.

That would put us 3rd and above Billericay ( champions ) in your table.

I would hope that the figure of top 500 / 600 was achievable with away support increasing.

600 has to be our target to work at although the budget set may not go this high.

with normal gates expected to be in xs of 450 and a winnning team looking at gates of 600+, we should also be considered as a "big club"

we've the ground

we;ve the crowd

maybe the infra structure

WE'VE not the bar

WE'VE not the catering facilities

NOT the team to reach the play offs

but we have time to improve in all areas

Let's enjoy being there first and let's realise we need to take it all step by step. Survive first it's taken us a while to get there. Now we are there let's stay there and then as the club grows we can see if we can grow with it and look at the next step. The club is only going to be as good as it's infrastructure. The team have done us proud this season next season will be a step up but the boys play for the club and the fans. In the end to me that is all we can ask.

Nope. We demand world domination and the footballing annihilation of Barnet FC!

I agree with comeon's comments, lets enjoy our newly found status as a Ryman Premier Club and visit as well as welcome the new associates we find ourselves in. Secondly our team is good enough for a Prem Play Off push, but we would need squad strengthening to be more serious about it. This year we achieved promotion and were helped somewhat with our key players being fit for most of the season.

I think we will be plesently surprised with our home gates next season, we have had very good coverage on our promotion in the local papers and the Enfield public will respond to Ryman Prem Football more than Div 1 North. Away support will help too. I think we can expect an average gate of 600. Lets hope so.

Everyone needs a break but I personally can't wait for 2012/13 season.
