Diz – It’s nice to have contact, I hope you’ve been keeping well and are enjoying the Test Match. No, I can't say I've ever been to Thailand, I’m only referring to some of the terrible stories I’ve heard which would make even Gary Glitter’s hair stand on end.

Typical of the small village in London mentality that some people can never shake off. Of course there are stories, bad and good about everywhere in the world. Another story today about human trafficking here in the UK today, probably put some small village mentalities from Thailand off from coming here but these sort like to focus on the glass half empty don't they?

There's no doubt sleaze and sexual exploitation is a part of Bangkok life, and its probably not difficult to find if you want to look for it. Fortunately its equally easy to avoid as well. My problem is that everyone from tuk tuk drivers, taxis, restaurants and even the hotel we stayed in tried to rip us off, and its far worse than it used to be. On the other hand Singapore was the safest and most honest place we have ever visited, and is now a far better place for a few day stopover IMO.

There is absolutely NO truth in the rumour that Gary Glitter and Jonathon King are to be employed by the Thailand Tourist Board !!

Wouldn't be the only thing of glitters standing up,despicable cnt that the man is

Eastside Urchin - The worst thing of all is that Gary Glitter is sadly just the tip of the iceberg particularly in places like Bangkok

Anyone who thinks that with an estimated 27 million held in slavery worldwide the very first place to start worrying about is Thailand has their head up their own backside.

Loosely - Well Diz started off this debate didn't he by asking whether I had ever been to Thailand, I can't for the life of me understand why we are so keen to go on holiday abroad when there are wonderful places to visit in our own green and pleasant land such as Cornwall, Devon, Herefordshire, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, Wales and Scotland and it would be far cheaper

My feeling is that if you are really concerned with these issues then you start at home, other countries develop at their own pace. That people don't just go to Thailand for the sex trade and in particular the child sex abuse trade has to be dealt with by its own law force.

There are plenty of similar issues here in the UK ranging from travellers holding and forcing people to work against their will to Towns with their own red light districts and areas which according to police statistics which have a higher proportion of child abuse cases then elsewhere - all of these within the UK and whilst some people would like to focus on the particular negatives of a country they like to ignore what goes on on their own doorstep.

Thailand has a legitimate tourist trade and some Mary Whitehouses on here like to overlook that.

Rhodesy - Well I think missunderstood kicked it all of when he first brought the subject up but well done for taking part. Obviously there are many places and regions here in the UK such as you've mentioned worth a visit, I've even worked in some but the point is that a lot of us like to explore even further afield sometimes to be able to rely on the sunshine a bit more, occasionally believe it or not because it can be cheaper! But at the end of the day it's down to some of us wanting to explore a different culture or be a bit more adventurous but you are more than welcome to stay in the UK for your hols.

Loosely - Well that's exactly the poor unpatriotic attitude I'm talking about, you claim to bleed red white and blue but then you're the first to leave these shores just to seek a bit of decent weather and, as you put it, explore further afield, your argument doesn't hold water I'm afraid.

I think the Thailand sex industry is a bloody disgrace. I visited this country. Once unpacked in my hotel room i decided to see the sites. i visited a place called 'the smoking joint' seeing im known to smoke a cigar or too. Once inside i was told it was a different smokling joint y a woman offered to smoke my [censored] for 30 minutes for the sum of £2.50. I left 30 minutes later with empty Balls and a smile on my face.

lol you fool I'm quarter scottish, quarter french and half....austrian! Born in London, spent the early years of my life in Austria and then my teens in Kent, have dual nationality and whilst being very grateful for my education and working life here in the UK would consider myself european. May have still bled red white and blue but not quite in the order you thought you knew!

Given any of that people who pay their taxes here in the UK and still choose to spend some of it abroad can still be.....patriotic!
