Tring Athletic 1-1 Hoddesdon Town A win 6-7 pens after 90'

Admission : £7 included 50/50 draw ticket & programme.

 

Attendance : h/c 70

 

Directions: M4/A404(M)/M40 then went cross country (heard M25 was being awkward in both directions) via Beaconsfield/Amersham/Chesham up to A41 nr Berko.

 

Facilities: Spacious clubhouse - doing a nice range of Real Ales (Bottled) from the Tring Brewery - mate sampled two and v.appreciative he was too. Tea Hatch inside did Burgers but were past their best after H/T when we got ours.

 

Match: well contested - no obvious difference in quality between the sides in spite of the home side being a STEP higher.

2nd match in this competition this pre-season and 2nd away win for the supposed lower-level club on pens. Overheard two chaps whom I assumed may have been hoppers making this very point on the way out.

Was a revisit for me and although my mate thought it was a new tick for him; he claims to have seen RFC play a friendly at Tring Town in the late 70s - so presumably if this was also at Pendley, then I s'pose he doesn't get a new tick? (Not that he'll be in the slightest bit bothered.)

 

Returned via Wendover/Chinnor/Xmas Common - home by 18:30.

London Colney 1 Colney Heath 1 (Colney Heath won 4-3 on penalties kicks from the penalty mark (isn't that the correct terminology PTG?))

 

Colney Heath equalised in the 1st minute of "stoppage" time, having had the majority of possesion in the game.

 

A full blooded local derby and very good entertainment. I think Herts FA have got this right in making teams play this pre-season as it gave both teams a competitive game before league (or FA cup this year) starts, and gets a round out of the way thus not interfering with league commitments
