PLAY OFF IDEA

Recommended Posts

Just a quick idea I've had.... I know promotion from Step 5 to Step 4 looks like it's only going to be one up from the SSMFL for the time being so there can't be play-offs at the top of the Premier Division but from Division One to the Premier I think the league should introduce play-offs to make the end of the season a little bit more exciting

Idea 1

---------

Two teams above the bottom two in the Premier (Biggy Town and Holmer Green) together with 3rd and 4th in Division One (Hoddy Town and Kings Langley) join the play offs... The Division One sides are given home advantage for finishing near the top of the league or a 2 legged affair??

Hoddy Town (3rd in div one) v Holmer Green (lowest ranked in Prem)

Kings Langley (4th) v Biggy Town

Simply the winners of each match gain promotion or stay up??

Or, Idea 2

-------------

Like the Step 4 leagues the four besty placed teams in Division One play-off with three down from the Premier. This year the semi-finals would be

Hoddy Town v Crawley Green

Kings Langley v Harpenden Town

Winners play-off for promotion with the highest placed club getting home advantage.

Got to be worth it... straight two up two down is little boring????

Unless you're from London Colney or Ampthill Town who earned it by gaining more points than the rest over 42 league games.

Yeah just leave it as it is.

I think that the teams placed from 2nd - 5th should go into a playoff for the second promotion spot. Having watch the Ryman L1 semi final between Grays and Enfield you can see the buzz that a playoff creates. I do not think anyone would protest if they were aware of the change well in advance to the season starting.

I think Nick's idea is spot on, would keep the league interesting for anyone in the hunt for those play off places. Also some extra much needed cash for the clubs.
