3spirit, you are spot on! the prospect of training and learning from experienced players for the season appealed to me. i train twice a week like everyone else, I do the warm up like everyone else and I like to think I put in a 100%. your right I did come from a lower level and who knows if it wasnt for injury after injury I may have got some game time. the reason I commented to start with is because I have basically been a fan this season, Ive watched from the side just like you- so I like to think that entitles me to an opinion. your right, I only got a few minutes at northwood and I don't even think I touched the ball, but u can't use the fact that I've barely been involved on matchdays as an indirect way of saying I should be commenting on the thread. hopefully with injury free pre season and a bit of luck I can

show what I can do next season.

Maybe Steve Bateman would welcome your tactical input as well Nathan, why dont you go and have a chat with him?

In all seriousness, why don't next season in our superb programme, we have a feature where fans get to put their questions to the manager[steve] and coach[Fred][separately].May actually do some good and broaden all of our minds.

Sorry to hear you've suffered injuries this season,Aaron.Good luck next season whether it be at Slough or another team.I'm all for everyone voicing an opinion, regardless of whether I agree with it or not.

Don't want to put you in a difficult position, so won't ask you questions of management decisions and players performance.

Lots of discussion on this thread about whether the club should retain or dismiss the manager.

A few words from Steve as he drove away last night would seem to indicate that he may resign anyway on the basis that he felt he had done as much as he could and perhaps it was time for someone else to have a go.

I know that this is all "heat of the moment" stuff and hopefully he has had time to reflect and calm down.

IMO I hope he stays as I feel he has done a good job and one more season could clinch the promotion we desire.

However, we did tail off towards the end of the season, as the last time I saw the Rebels play really well was away to St Neots.

I think over the last 24 hours we have all discussed real issues 3spirit, don't think anyone is saying we cannot.

In this world, and this may be a bit extreme in this instance but one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter!

What I'm saying is, football wise, some fans will be happy with their manager, some will sit on the fence and others won't be happy with their manager because we all have different opinions and Steve Bateman is no different to 99% of managers in the beautiful game, unless your name is Sir Alex Ferguson or Pep Guardiola of course. Hell, even a minority of Real Madrid's fans are calling for Jose Mourinho's head because they won't win the Champions League yet he has won La Liga.

We all have opinions but just think at this time some perspective is needed. Yes I have criticised the managers methods in the past but that doesn't necessarily say I'm right!

Some people are over reacting and I agree with Martin and Aaron Eales as I believe that the team and Steve Bateman have done great. 2 nd in the league by a good distance is a more than respectable season in whatever league you are in. I hope that Steve Bateman and the majority of the team stay ( some will leave and that is to be expected as most of them are well capable of playing at a higher level). The only change for next season should be to bring in a few new players and bring in a few of the under 18s.

But second in this system is NOWHERE, dont like to remind you all that I said weeks back that the team as a whole did NOT SEEM TO HAVE THE DESIRE.to gain promotion.Lots of teams given last nights opportunity would have played their hearts out and gone for it.When we scored that should have been IT ! Then we go and give them another chance. which THEY TOOK !

If we had beaten most of those lower sides that got a result against us during the season, we would have been champions by a country mile.So that is the real problem for me.

I believe the players do have the desire and IMO to state anything different is doing the existing squad a dis-service. Some teams finish the season strongly and some teams lose form, it's called football and even happens to premiership teams let alone part-time teams.

Hotspur, all teams whether top or bottom can reflect on the season and say if they hadn't of dropped silly points here and there that things would have been different.

If St Neots hadn't of dropped points to AFC Hayes, Bedfont, North Greenford etc etc etc.

Probably not enough older fans around who new the Sunday league sides of "White Horse" and Oxley press, or they would tell you that either of those teams would slaughter the present Slough team.Oxley's mainly made up of Slough reseves.Peter Frost -Joey Howarth are 2 who come to mind.True White Horse ( named after pub in Cippenham ) had a more electic team, ocassionaly using the Reardon brothers,Delaney,Roger Connell etc etc.My point being every game they seemed to have the DESIRE to win.

To say the Slough Players have no DESIRE to win is a nonsense.

So we finished second in the league with players who have no desire to win?

At the end of long hard season the play-offs are a lottery and as per last night not always the best teams in the league win.

I think the promotion places at this level need a serious rethink!

If the powers that be want to keep the play offs they should do away with the need for a semi final and have a one off cup final so to speak. In other words, the champions of the Central and South & West go up automatically of course, then the bottom 2 in the Premier Division get relegated. The teams that finish in 19th and 20th in the Premier Division (of course the authorities will have to decide which team goes in which division if they eventually get relegated!) play off against the runners up from the Central and South & West Divisions!

For me that would be a better format but probably too sensible, that way there is none of this finishing a ridiculous amount of points above the 5th placed team and getting beaten by them in the semi final, and in my opinion the team that has had a successful season by finishing 2nd will have a definite advantage when it comes to the play offs as the teams in 19th and 20th won't be up too much but that won't necessarily lead to a win and promotion of course!

I think the play off system works fine.

If a team that finishes second and 6 points above the team in third cant get motivated to play the team that finishes in fifth place 15 points behind them, THEN THAT TEAM SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO LOOK AT ITS SELF !

Ah the beauty of the play offs :D

Did you feel that way when AFC Totton beat you in the play-offs back in 2009?

Did your fanbase warrant having your own internet messageboard that AFC Totton fans could go onto and gloat?

Everybody knows it's a bit of a nonsense when the second best team in the league is denied by the fifth best, but the system won't change anytime soon. We knew what we were up against and would have gladly taken promotion two years ago when we beat Hitchin after they finished with 100 points. They dusted themselves down, got on with it and won the league the following season. Perhaps we should focus our efforts on moving on and supporting the club in its ambition to win the league next season.

The thing that makes me laugh about your posts Older Ram is that you are basically attempting to gloat about potentially nothing at all because when Bedworth beat you on Monday, you will have achieved exactly the same as us this season, and that is another season in the Evo Stik Central Division. So unless you are actually an Infant Ram parading as an Older Ram, please grow up!

That post wasn't a dig about last nights game because we did the same to Hitchin 2 years ago and they were 20 odd points clear of us!

Won the play offs Matt not the league but they shouldn't have been subjected to them in the first place in either season they finished 2nd!

Yes, forgot about Arlesey. My point is still that they regrouped, improved and got the job done the next season. No reason why we can't do the same. No point moaning about the playoff system either, as it's clearly here to stay.

As I keep saying Beaconsfield haven't got a forum, because they haven't got any fans. what they have got is quite a good "pub team" who's feet are on the ground and who can give most teams a run for their money, especially teams who are over paid and overrated and think they are better than they are. It must be annoying to lose to a pub team, but its a funny old game football ! :D

By the way, I cant believe how much NBH is on a week, more than your captain and nearly as much as our whole team ££££££ !

he earned his money last night though, he looked really good :D

We said that 2 years ago, after we lost to Chesham (a fair comment at the time). Results didn't improve, we scraped in again and bottled it in the play-offs again.

We said that last year after losing at Hitchin (again, a fair comment at the time). Although results did improve, we bottled it when it mattered and had to go through the play-offs again, which as it happens we didn't turn up to.

I feel that we seem to have stagnated somewhat (certainly as far as the play-offs are concerned), and I feel that something big needs to change if we are to have that little bit extra needed for promotion.
