This season...

Yes there are some card-happy refs but over a season they officiate for all teams and every team will pick up cards that were unfair so the end of season stats are probably accurate Im sure however that refs look at the stats as they develop and speak to colleagues so they probably give less benefit of the doubt to the proven dirty/mouthy sides What worries me is that this is another example of what Bateman says and reality being quite different He promised to address the problem of foul play and gratuitous foul language but there is no improvement at all Why do any of you think this is ?

I find it strange when you look back at old tv footage from league football of of the hard men of yester year or even memories of tackles and such like from amateur footballers. To how it compares with this generation of handbags and divers and the pathetic name callers, moaners, whingers and dodgy cowardly tacklers.Referees and linesman are constantly abused and rarely do you see friendly banter between player and official.

In some regards the game of football has improved but these days some footballer players act like morons and thugs in a worse way and appear to lack Corinthian spirit, moral fibre and mostly,a brain!!! than they did all those years ago.

Or is it just misty-watered coloured memories of the way we were?

It is laughable what constitutes a booking these days and what's worse the players know it and "win" fouls and get opposing players carded. That said it's equally annoying that referees at our level seem much happier to dish out a card if someone calls them a ******** yet ignore other things.

A few footballers should be made to pad up and play a game of ice hockey - that's a proper tough sport where for the most part players just take the hits and get on with it.

Footballers should go and watch some rugby union matches, even top amateur games, to appreciate hard tackling, sporting behaviour and to follow codes of conduct for officials and your fellow players.

However in both codes, human passions and tempers do go awry at times. That's part and parcel of both sports and will not change.

Also,as we know some officials are just not up to what they need to be,as a fair, impartial, knowledgable arbiter.
