Hi Lads - greetings from Gloucestershire.

Well it seems that Knaphill haven't wasted any time in getting their friendlies sorted.

Couple of questions: 1) are you sure that Step 6 kicks off on August 4th, as I was told it was being held back a week because of Seb Coe's knees-up in Stratford?

2) how long do clubs leave it to organise their pre-season friendlies (I've posted this as a question in the general forum, so hope somebody can answer).

Good luck to Knaphill, and indeed all the clubs for next season!

The season will start on Sat 4 Aug for both divisions. The main reason is that the Extra-Preliminary Round of the FA Cup is scheduled for Sat 11 Aug and most clubs, we presume, would not wish to start their competitive season with an FA Cup tie.

Also every available Saturday helps in getting the fixtures completed.

AK to be organised and be in preparation for the following season, I start arranging with the club secretary pre-season friendlies in February so to get in early with the chosen opposition to avoid disappointment.

Thank you to Whitelaw and Nice Guy for their respective posts - they make perfect sense. I did once hear that Graham Turner, when he was at Hereford, finalised his pre-season games as far back as January!

Will all Step 5 and 6 leagues be starting on August 4th, or will some be starting later?

Also, hypothetical question for you:

Team A competes in the FA Cup in Season A, but at the end of Season A they finish 13th in their league (at Step 6)

Are they allowed to enter the FA Cup in Season B?

Ak it's worked out on an average points per game basis. Over the past two seasons top half of the CCL Div 1 has generally got you into the FA Cup. Always getting harder though as more clubs improve their facillities
