Sorry - horribly picky I know. Nairn is refered to as Alec in the title and Alex all through the piece.

He was referred to as both throughout all the information we had, but will got some consistency as Alec for that piece. Thanks for the spot!

I think we mostly knew him as "Alec" and he appears as such in contemporary programme notes and team lists. But he is also sometimes referred to as "Alex", including in the reproduction in the programme of his resignation letter!

 

In other news, I think Mick, Micky and Mike Brown on the database are all the same player-son of club secretary Bill Brown and his somewhat formidable wife, who taught me and perhaps others on here at Godolphin Infants School in the mid 1950's. And the refences to "Eastbourne Borough" in the results lists should read simply "Eastbourne" i.e. the team now known as "Eastbourne Town".

 

I doubt Gary derived as much enjoyment from up loading my material as I did from writing it, so a very big thank you to him for doing so.

There was a Micky Brown who was a school boy 100 meter record holder late 50's/ early 60's who played a few games for Slough, then I believe he went to play for Fulham ? I also think he was a Slough tech ( Hershell Grammar as now is ) old boy

That's interesting. So maybe there were at least two of them, after all. This is the only way we shall get these things sorted out.

 

My Football League Players' Records shows that a Mick J Brown (born Slough 11 April 1944) signed for Fulham, where he had previously been an apprentice, in September 1961 and went on to play 107 FL games for them, Millwall, Luton and Colchester up to 1969-scoring 25 League goals. I do not know whether or not he turned out for the Rebels as it was slightly before I began to take a closer interest in the club but, given that there was far from a settled side around that time, it would not seem impossible.

 

The player to whom my profile was intended to refer is the one listed on the database as Mike/Micky Brown.

 

In checking this I have also realised that, as any fule could see, my comment about Les Davey playing in all four of Slough's league victories in 1960/61 is quite wrong. Many apologies.
