I'll be updating this thread with details of how Kay, Martin, Pete and Radders are doing. They are leaving The West Wing at 8am aiming today to get to Stoke Mandeville which is about 28 miles!!

It's just started raining. Updates to follow.....

The intrepid four set off as planned at 8am and at 9:15am hit their first challenge. Their route from The West Wing took them upto Farnham Royal and then heading off towards Burnham. However, down East Burnham Lane they were faced with this.....

They tried to get through or round it but couldn't so I had to make a mercy dash in the car to drive them from one side of the puddle to the other! If anyone is sponsoring them by the mile you need to make the appropriate financial adjustment to take account of the 20 yards they haven't walked!!!

11:35am and they've been in one pub already......although only to use the toilets I'm assured.

They have just gone under the M40 at Wooburn Green (by J3) and are heading for a not very nice walk along the A40 through Wycombe. We cycled that stretch many times and it's not very pleasant. They are planning on lunch somewhere in Wycombe town centre in about an hour which, by my reckoning, will be about 12 miles or thereabouts............less the 20 yards from earlier obviously!!!

1:15pm and they've stopped for lunch in a pub in Wycombe. Apparently Pete has only broken out into a small jog once and Kay didn't mention any jokes so he might be resisting for now. They're a bit wet but all ok. Still 16 miles to go today by my reckoning.

Yes, Sue, but there's a difference between two pints of beer and two pints of red wine!

Spoke to Kay about half an hour ago and they were 3 miles away from Princes Risborough. They dried out in the pub at lunchtime but suspect they'll get soaked again before reaching Stoke Mandeville. They think they'll be finished for the day by 6pm.

At 4:40pm they had just gone through Princes Risborough village and were by Tesco just the other side. Having done that route several times they are just about to climb a bit of a hill and follow another long, undulating and boring road heading towards Aylesbury.

Having just done a quick map check they have 5.75 miles to go to reach the train station at Stoke Mandeville where Pippa (Martin's better half) is collecting them.

When we did the Worthing walk it was the last 5 or 6 miles on day one that really hurt. 28 miles in a day is a LONG way on foot so bravo to them all.

Have to confess some stiffness has already set in and some cracking blisters bubbling up nicely. But sure I will loosen up after the first couple of miles tomorrow!
