Squad next season

Cookie; excellent summing up & right on the nail. dannyriding mentions CK (prob) knowing more than all of us about the game. Maybe so. But, there's a big difference from being involved in the game for a long time and being a good manager. As a small vignette: I happened upon a reserve game at Thamesmead recently. We were 2-0 down but in reality looked very dangerous and I had no doubt the second half would tell a different story. Our reserve manager was not panicking until....CK appeared upon the scene. He rearranged us into a mirror of all that's been wrong with our 1st team and we crumbled!

We have a side full of damn good ball players (bodders, aves, wilson, burch etc...) with which Managers' such as Day or Saunders would use to their full potential. Sadly, inevitable that an exodus will take place-but if quality replacements are draughted in, the way in which they are likely to asked to play, will be disappointing for them (and us).

Hope I'm totally wrong and this was just CK's 'bedding in' season. Nevertheless, he remains an affable fellow and I wish him luck for next season.

A few points:

1) The reserve team exists to supply players for the first team. Winning matches is not the priority. Seeing how those players are suited to a first team formation seems logical.

2) This will be the Jay Saunders who is struggling to get what is easily the biggest club in Ryman One South promoted?

3) "We have a side full of damn good ball players." No, we don't, otherwise they wouldn't be playing at this level.

The fact is we are at the third tier of non-league football. Those kind of players are not going to come here (as opposed to Dover, Tonbridge, Dartford, Bromley, Welling, etc, etc) unless offered huge wages. We don't have huge wages to offer. The pragmatic route is the one to take.

As a Ramsgate supporter I really hope these rumours are true but not sure if we have enough budget to afford all three. I'm guessing the two ex Dover players would travel up in the same car as our new manager as they all live in Dover and of course they won't have to travel up the line to train once or twice a week. As for Curtis is the rumour true he had a disagreement with CK ? Reading all the above posts does it not worry any of you why they want to drop a league and come over to the red side? Does it not tell you that maybe there is a problem behind the scenes at your club?

Cookie, excellent summing up, BUT i think we would have to pay Wayyne £5,000.00 a week to work with CK and play his style of football

you say the above blue Alan but on the hendon forum you appear as a hendon fan saying]

I read a top 15 finish would satisfactory next season with an out look like that expect to be playing the s*** down the road on a regular basis. We want to be pushing for the playoffs. Look at sandwells optimism turn a few draws into wins and we will be there!

Ck tactics worked when we had kwesi and the season went to pot when he left surely this tells ck something get a quick goalscorer and we aint far off.

As for the ground forget it if it happens nice, surely that hasn't effected the players most wouldn't have been here when it was built anyway.

I am expecting a big exodus during the close season-some released and others wishing to leave.

that given-i'd be happy for every player to be retained-they all have something to offer-but simply weant to see the players played in their right positions.

(from my perspective-the two players i would be least likely to retain would be murphy and bodkin-which i imagine differentiates me from the majority on here !!)

Whilst i think CK and JL will'get us there' it has to be said that they have had a poor 2012-and ok we lost kwesi-but can't keep on about trhat-and it should not have taken 4 months to sort out replacement players/system/re-motivate everyone.

Some things are obvious-murphy and robinson are not strikers. I rate Curtis-and ok he wins a few headers-but he does not have a strikers 'instinct' he should be playing in defence or pssibly wide midfield-not as striker -just to accomodate him.

Murphy is not a striker.

Equally-murphy and robinson show no signs of being a partnership.

Even though we lost the game-post christmas-the one time we looked half decent in attack was away to leatherhead when CK paired bradbrook and robinson-i did'nt expect them to-as they are similarish-but strangely worked well together-and for 60 miutes looked like a partnership.

Unfortunately-thst pairing was never seen again-or at least given one more chance to see if it could function- Thus you are wasting 2 positions-and effectively playing with 9 men-no wonder we lose and look rubbish -as per tuesday.

There is a sriker at the club in bradbrook-he may not be world class-but he does have a strikers instinct-and his goals v appearances this season is very acceptable.

Cloke is also more of a striker than murphy or robinson-so worst way-play him as a striker.

If we have no really good strikers-'minimise your losses'-just play one striker and lose one position-not two and play 5 in midfield to compensate and gain possession.

Why is central midfield neglected?

I think Avery has done really well all season-as posted above he wins alot of headers/possession in deep midfield (but want went wrong tuesday when he id not win a single header-maybe a one-off )

In central midfield there is just corneile-he does pretty well -but can't do it alone.

Stubbs does well-but out wide-so central midfield is overrun.

has CK simply forgot about midfield ? I have no wish to see 'pretty football'-and if ck wants to play hoofball and bypass midfield-thats fine by me.

Frankly-its effective at this level

But unfortunately we don't play hoofball either-we try and pass the ball-but there are not enough numbers in central midfield to do that-either to keep possession-or stop the oppostion.

we seem to be caught up in 'nothingness'

we had the same last season where for the last 6/7 games we had just dean hill playing in central midfield-until the last game when Wilson is brought in and happens to score two goals (headers )

it worries me that CK has really neglected midfield vitually all season-keep possession-and most games -you will come out on top.

I still rate the defence-but they have started to concede-but its pressure/concentration-because we are not retaining possession long enough in central midield.

Mention is made above of losing players because they can't play to the CK system-can someone tell me what that system is ?

i knew 7 years ago-strong at the back and have a midfield.

For the lat 4 months-all i seem to have seen is a mismash and square pegs trying to be fitted win round holes (when there has been no need to do so )

For the avoidance of doubt-i share CK's view of slow steady growth-believe he will get us there (though not next season as we are starting again),have faith in him,but do think he needs to ask himself if he could have done better in 2012.

Again-this is not all down to kwesi leaving. We have obviously gonne backwards over the last 4 months-thats why we are starting all over again-its just too big a gap to build in one season to be thinking of play-offs.

I would take 15th now for next season-as i am seriously worried that CK will not be able to attract/afford quality.

if we could get top half next season-that would be superb-but again-i'd snatch someone's hand off to be safe from relegation in february and get 15th .

If we finish no higher than 15th next season Michael then the board will be saying cheerio to both CK and JL! I agree re your comments on playing players out of position which clearly hasn't worked. Robiinson and Corneille are both defenders and our defence would undoubtedly have been more solid with them playing there. Also yes Murphy is not an out and out striker and should be playing on the flanks (maybe put Stubbs more central). What is clear is that we need at least one more striker who can get us 15 + goals a season but who would want to come here?

Bodkin extended his contract at the start of last season-so you will be pleased that he will almost certainly be with Margate next season.

I simply look forward to the good performances of which he is very capable becoming a bit more regular.

Inconsistency is why most of these players are at ryman level-but a good game a bit more often would be very welcome

Are you having a laugh I cannot believe you would part with your money to watch a club that you are happy to finish even below half way.

You are either a real pessimist who likes to be proved wrong or an idiot.

No one in their right mind should be happy with that atleast mid table so we can flirt with the playoffs but I want a top half finish. If not get rid of ck and let Kevin barham play his kids in the first team!

In February-i would have been similarly expecting at least top half and probably top 8.

I believe you underestimate the impact that the ground set back will make in terms of player recruitment.

I also suspect (though obviously do not know ) that it will impact on the funds available to recruit the quality required to get really good players.

The loss of momentum in the last 4 months will also make it hard.

To my mind-we are back where we are 12 months ago-and effectively 'start again'

Slow steady growth is most likely to bring permanent growth and i'd rather have that then a one off freaky season and then the club not having the infrastructure to maintain itself as bss level.

I do not regard myself as being pessimistic-simply realistic based on the last 4 months wnere the club has gone backwards both onfield and off field as to why i would be content with 15th again.

Now whilst i retain my confidence in CK and believe he will 'get us there' ,i do believe hois 'credit rating' has been downgraded from AAA to AA only over the last 4 months-based on a 'lack of squad refreshment'(we have already heard that it is difficult to recruit-so why will that change over the summer) and where one or two signings have been made-i do question them and think why sign them in the first place when they obviously are never going to be good enough.

The playing of a few out of postion also worries me-(and there has not been any need to in most instances)

i am well known as an idiot as suggested above-so don't really need the reminder-but do hope that i am an incorrect idiot in this instance.

For the majority of you who simply state and /or imply that as 'unacceptable' and that top 5 should be the 'bare minimum'-perhaps you woud care to share your justification for that,as opposed to simply making statements.

I don't believe I have ever said bare minimum top 5 I said mid table and a possible flirt with playoffs.

I just think to say I'd be content with 15 is a joke.

Yes it is always hard to get players to travel to margate but don't we train near Gravesend? Surely its the local players we will never get training there. Training in north kent gives us access to lots of players so I'm not having that argument also we don't pay peanuts either!

The support is there if we are doing well, but it will never come back if we all sit here saying we don't mind a to be near the bottom.

With the possible exception of 6 players the rest can go. but first they should put their hands in their pockets and pay the travelling expenses for the regular supporters who (some would say) foolishly travelled to the last away game to offer THEM their support. Also it would not come amiss if they returned the rest of their wages as a gesture for the lack of effort they reportedly put in.

As for Curtis wanting to go to Ramsgate, Well good luck if that's the limit of your ambition.
