Squad next season

Think CK will need to be busy wheeling and dealing if we are to challenge at the other end of the table next season. Minimum we need imo 2 new strikers, an attacking central midfield player to support the forwards and an experienced goalkeeper who can command his area and organise the back line. If Folkestone dont make promotion there are a few possibles there (Marsden, King, Friend) Byron Walker from Herne Bay? Charlie Mitten? (where is he now - last I heard he was at Maidstone). Wouldn't be surprised to see Cloke, Wilson, Burchell and Bradbrook let go. Discuss.

when billy has his testimonial perhaps we could ask some of the old crew to come back to play,....... they are'nt THAT old :)

I will be very happy if CK and JL can engineer a top 15 finish next season.-play-off fantasies are at least a further 12 months away imo.

There is an awful lot of work to be done-and i believe it will become increasingly difficult to attract quality players to MFC

makes you wonder where we would be now without KA goals all those months ago. Ok he went the club made some money and as said b4 good luck to him, but I also think the stadium issues deflated the team as much as the supporters and officals at the club, ok some may say off-field probs should not affect a squad of players but sure it does with all the negativity around the place due to TDC and the 'snail speed' of getting things signed off.......

You could tell that the effect of Thanet District Council cocking up big time AGAIN had an effect on the team and backroom staff.

That said we should be used to the complete and utter incompedance of the Council staff and councillors as there is a history of corrupt and basic inability to do the job they were appointed to.

If TDC HR department was up to the job several TDC employees would no longer be in the job.....if the Local Council Ombadsman was up to the job 54 people would not be Councillors.

Yes I will dam you to hell.............

Huge task for next season, the tactics have got to change, substitutions used better, increased fitness, and thats all down to the manager, can he adapt to a new style of play. I hope he can because we had good players who must be frustrated at the way they played. A better managerial performance required i.m.o. Also frustrated are the majority of supporters who come week in week out, pay good money and get declining performances. The excuses used by some are just that, players and manager etc are paid whatever they agreed, surely we as supporters deserved better. Comments !

Cloke will be wearing a red shirt next season from rumours, and I agree I don't think the others you have mentioned will be there (what will happen to the community program when Wilson goes?). I agree with the goalie comments, Overlands kicking is very hit and miss and he doesnt command his area which probably has an affect on players in front if him. Pooley hasnt passed to a teammate since xmas and Cornielle doesn't look like a central midfielder. On a positive note I hope we keep Avery, Beales, Murphy, Bodkin, Stubbs, Ball, Hill, Bradbrook (but dont think thats going to happen) & Robinson, but here's one to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, would anyone be surprised to see Robinson in a red shirt next season after being shoved from pillar to post this season, lad looks dejected half the time!

'Good' football does not win games at this level.

Have to disagree with the term "GOOD" and replace with "PRETTY". I agree that in this league 75% of the time the ball is in the air and watching a goal kick is like seeing one of those ball bearing board games ( the one where you tilt the board ) tactics are sometimes very basic and when a "footballing" side come to Hartsdown (Wealdstone for example) the way our team has been set out we do seem to try just to get the ball forward at any and all opportunities - which 90% of the time will come racing back at us and as stated Wealdstone relished this and made us look IMO rubbish. CKs tactics have'nt changed since he was with us the last time, not knocking him as he knows more about football than most of us put together, just seems like teams visiting us know how to play through us and our formation really doesnt change that much to suit or offset opposing teams style. As said roll on next season and some good/bad and indifferent games and possibly some much awaited cup runs :)

So we are poor at playing good football and complete rubbish at playing bad football. Does that mean we have got to get players who are good at playing rubbish, roll on the next season!

Personally i think we will struggle next season as i think half of the squad we have will be gone , Cloke, Bradbrook ,Curtis ,Wayne , Cornile will all move on . Would love to see Cornile stay but can deffo see the others going so a hard task for the gaffer but with a small budget and no ground there will be no interest from players to come to Margate sadly .

Next year's squad....

Those we need to definitely hang on to : Beales, Ball, Bodkin, Avery, Murphy

Those I would like to hang on to : Robinson,Stubbs,Hill, and Corneille if available for all matches/training,

Agree with Beales (not likely but hopeful) Bodkin, Avery ...... Murphy (but not as a striker) ... Lawrence is a lovely guy but....

Hanging onto Stubbs I think will be easy as he loves it here (ronks might prove me wrong ) Curtis Robinson's blood runs BLUE and not red so guaranteed staying (needs to know where he is playing) but will think Corneill will leave due to work commitments. All other players are subject to contract - one other worth mentioning is Aidan Sherlock - not given a lot of time on the pitch but strong/young and willing to do whatever in a challenge i.e. give all for the team (impressed me no end) new players that I think CK if given the budget

Jay May or Richard Jolly as they dont seem to go up with their prospective promoted teams (also they seem to be suited to this league) if there is a jewel/gem (like Kwesi) then I'm hoping that CK knows where that player is and can attract him to the sunny heights of MFC.... as regards our position next year well 2012-2013 season who can tell but it will be interesting wont it :)

Did'nt \bodkin extend his contract from one to two years at the start of the season,so looks like he will be here next season.

Maybe i am just unlucky and see Bodkin when he has off days ?

Murphy has 'nice feet' (but so has my wife)and makes the occasinal really penetrating pass -but is that enough ?.

Maybe it wil work out with him-but as posted above-he ain't no striker.

Does anyone think there is any danger of having a midfield next season ?

Overland : Not sure of. Makes some great saves,IS tall, which helps but dosen't take charge of his area enough & his kicking is far from being as it should be.

Ball : Definately would keep him if possible as his heading ability is first class.Times his jumps with perfection.Just needs to stop hoofing it forward at every opportunity,a trend that most of our defenders seem to have settled in to.

Beales: Some solid work in defence & gives it his all. Can't fault the guy.

Pooley : Not as good as when first arrived but still a decent defender.

Cloke: Another who has been in & out with his form. Looks likely he will move on.For me still a decent defender & would be happy enough to see him stay but not too downhearted were he to go.

Corneille: One of my favourite players early season but has deteriorated as the season has progeressed. Have taken into account his injury but not one for me for next season.

Hill: has come back after injury in good form but another who it seems might be departing. Would be happy for him to stay.

Robinson: Sorry, but for me he has not impressed this season as in other seasons. Again, have taken into account his change of positions but in other seasons he has done the same & has impressed in each season. Gone backwards i.m.o & will go even further backwards were the rumour that he is intending to move over to the red side be true. Is too young & on his day too gifted to take a backward step like that.

Think again Curtis!

Avery: A good player that wins all his headers in midfield & can fire a bullet like shot when he wants to. Sometimes a bit erractic but he can be excused the odd one or two wayward attempts. One for me!

Bodkin: I believe he has another season with us & he is the ONLY player willing to get the ball down to feet & attempt to play it on the ground.Has been getting caught out of late but always strives to play football on the ground whenever posible. Am perplexed that he dosen't seem to last the full 90 minutes as EVERY footballer should i.m.o. be able to do that. One definately already penned in for me.

Stubbs: Not going to be popular on this one but I do think, despite his energy & his workrate, his skill often lets him down.

Burchell: The loss of the season i.m.o. Whatever has happened for him not to have had more games should have been put to the side for the sake of the team. Has undoubted ability & frightens defenders when he gets a run out.

Had we seen him on a more regular basis in the team I strongly believe he would have improved no-end & impressed people. Sadly it wasn't to be. He will impress whoever he goes to & will most certainly make a name for himself. Given another season ,given a regular spot I hope that will be with us.

Needs to improve his shooting & his last ball in but his skill up to that point is something that not many others possess.

Bradbrook: Not the force of old but came back into some kind of form after his injury. My guess is that he will be departing & though he has given us some good moments has failed to impress me overall this season.

Murphy: has gradually found his feet & form. Has pace to ruin any defenders day. Will get better & will prove a good signing given another season.

Wilson: Still has something to offer i.m.o & can at times be a very dangerous player. A player worth having in the squad if & when fully fit.

Sherwood: Haven't seen enough of him really but from what little I have seen of him I haven't been overly impressed.

MY retained list would be (definates) : Ball, Beales,Avery,Bodkin,Burchell, Murphy & Wilson.

My (possibles) would be : Overland,Hill, Cloke,Pooley,Robinson.

My (released players) would be: Corneille,Stubbs,Bradbrook,Sherlock.

The above are my own personal opinions.

Cookie; excellent summing up & right on the nail. dannyriding mentions CK (prob) knowing more than all of us about the game. Maybe so. But, there's a big difference from being involved in the game for a long time and being a good manager. As a small vignette: I happened upon a reserve game at Thamesmead recently. We were 2-0 down but in reality looked very dangerous and I had no doubt the second half would tell a different story. Our reserve manager was not panicking until....CK appeared upon the scene. He rearranged us into a mirror of all that's been wrong with our 1st team and we crumbled!

We have a side full of damn good ball players (bodders, aves, wilson, burch etc...) with which Managers' such as Day or Saunders would use to their full potential. Sadly, inevitable that an exodus will take place-but if quality replacements are draughted in, the way in which they are likely to asked to play, will be disappointing for them (and us).

Hope I'm totally wrong and this was just CK's 'bedding in' season. Nevertheless, he remains an affable fellow and I wish him luck for next season.
