Paulton Rovers History

Paulton Rovers was founded in 1881 and was formed by ex -miners as the area was part of the North Somerset Coalfields and the miners would finish their shift on a Saturday morning to go to the ground to see if their name was listed on the gate to play on that day.

The most notable history was to play Crew Alexander in the 1st Round proper at home in the the Fa cup only to lose 1-0 in the final minutes of the game.

The ground that is now fully owned by the club sports two impressive function rooms, one is capable of holding 400 for a disco seating 200 people and the other for 120 as well as a bar and lounge suite and fully equipped Snooker hall.

This all began in the late 60,s when the ground was turned round 90 degrees to allow for the 1st stages of the club house since this time a small stand as been built and the other sides recently covered in with terracing with a grant from the football sports trust. We will continue to improve the facilities hoping to gain promotion this yesr into the Doc Martins League.

We are also one of the 1st clubs in the country to gain a grant to provide 2 mini soccer pitches as we run teams from under 8 upwards to under 18,s

Steve Philips Bristol Citys 1st Team keeper came out of the under 18 side and played 1st team football for Paulton and signed for City when he was 18

Promotion and winning cups seem to have eluded us over the years.

Our best ever chance was when we lost to Yeading in the 4th round of the FA Vase in a replay at Yeading when Yeading went on to win this cup.

Under the present management team lead by Darren Perrin ( brother to the Forest Green keeper) the team is looking to go forward this season. Darren is also full time Youth Academy director of Football at Forest Green Rovers.

By the way the web site is in its early stages of being set up so we do not have a message board yet.

The nearest is probably Palms Hotel on the A127. However, I don't know their phone number, how much it is or what it's like inside as I've never been there myself.

In Romford (ick!) there's a Travel Inn. Think this is around £45 per night, which seems a little excessive to me, all things considered.

What ones have I missed?

If all else fails, my Nan has a spare room. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Done a little research and found this site...

http://www.hotels.org.uk/index.html?http://www.hotels.org.uk/hotelsearch/hotels_hornchurch.html

Found another site that said rooms for Palms start at £45 per night.

Anyway, these have the phone numbers of the two I mentioned above if you do want to stay the night. Bring a few down and the two groups of fans could meet up for a drink on Friday - show you the glory that be Hornchurch! <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
