Should we win our group, we will avoid Australia (assuming the top group A) until the final.

 

Should we be runners-up in our group, odds are we'll play the Aussies in the quarter-finals.

 

Correct so far?

 

So...

 

By beating South Africa on Saturday, we will put ourselves in a strong position to win our group, therefore playing probably either Ireland or the Argies in the next round.

 

Am I right??

 

Also, if we win the group, we should be on the opposite side of the draw to New Zealand and South Africa as well, therefore unable to meet any of them til the final either?

 

Is that correct??

if we beat sarf afika.. then that leaves the ozzies kiwis and boks all on the same side of the draw.. (f it goes to seed). i think that leaves us with wales in the 1/4's and france in the semis.. its a must win game as either team could go all the way on the easier side of the draw.. its gonna be intense

get up at about 11 then take a casual stroll to the boozer via the newsagents to pick up a couple of papers..

gat to pub at 11.45 secure prime seating position either with mates or solo..

do guiness read match buld up...

t.v. coverage starts at 12.30 get in the mood get more beer..

watch 80 mins of some of the fastest hardest high speed violence on the planet..

celebrate a glourous england victory with pints..

celebrate england nicking it at the death with pints..

sit there dismayed at how the boks got that last minute try with pints..

call england team a bunch of over paid prima donas as the boks crush us by 30 points with pints...

 

go home...

We did Union at school, hence me just about understanding the rules. Isn't league all about 5th tackles and stuff? Less players too, yeah?

Without trying to sound like a bird at footie, what is the layman's description of the offside rule in Union? Ccos I certainly don't get it.

basically u try to get a penalty then some foot kicker ,like in A,Football they wear helmets & padding too, kicks it over the stix and evryone hails him like the Son of Beckham...

at the breakdown.. (the bit where all the players fight for the ball on the floor) the backs have to be behind the back foot of any forwards involved in the pile up)

basically that line there until the ball comes out

 

if you r player kicks it while you are in front of hom you are off side and cant get involed until the kicker has passed you that why you always see the kicker peg it after the ball after he has booted it..

tho you are played onside if the opposition player who catches the ball travel more than 10 yards..

 

at least thats the way it was when i played been a few rule changes since then

the real fun in union is in the tight.. all the nasty stuff the forwards get up to.. thats what missing in league its like watching sevens rugby played by northern people with no sensory pain system

you know on the one occasion every game in Union when someone runs with the ball and gets hit full on now, multiply that by 5 every few minutes or so..

 

Ah the Middlesex 7s,

where the nothern monkeys get invited once in a blue moon

because they have the audacuity to wipe the floor with the "shandy drinkers"

eg. Bradford last season, despite playing a full game the previous evening

I'm happy not to understand it but would like us to win.

 

They've just done a thing on Sky Sports, apparently the Aussies would prefere NZ to win rather then us, we are the most unpopular nation out there for the aussies.

i cant deny the hardness factor of league.. but its the constant stopping every 15 seconds thats makes it too much like american footy for me..

yeah i cna see that, the stopping every so often, but when those chaps move quality stuff..just rarely happens in Union, except for when billy whizz gets it of course (winks eye)
