End of Season Walk - Woodford

Rebel Kay

Recommended Posts

Just to remind you all that there will be four of us setting off for Woodford on Thursday 26th April.

We are breaking with tradition and looking to the future. We will be setting off from The West Wing rather than Wexham Park

Our chosen charity is The Alexander Devine Children's Hospice, who will receive 50% of our sponsorship, The Supporters Trust having the other 50%.

We will be returning home on Thursday evening from Stokenchurch, being dropped back there on Friday morning to carry on.

Hopefully arriving at Woodford in time for a sit down before kick off.

It is just short of 70 miles over three days,

Besides our feet we will be relying on people ferrying us back and forth, so thank you in advance to those who have volunteered.

And now to the point of the post.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sponsor us.

We will have our forms at the game on Saturday Martin, Radders, Pete Riley and myself will all be very grateful for your support, so come and find us and give us your money (please)

There is a strong chance that I will not be able to make any part of the game on Saturday due to a prior commitment, so just to reiterate what Kay has said any sponsorship will be greatly appreciated. I understand that Mike and Alan have collective sponsorship forms in the Supporters Trust hut so please also feel free to sponsor us there.

I am fairly certain that in the year Slough were relegated from the Ryman Premier, Harrow and another team finished having played only 41 games in a 42 game season. This was permitted as there was nothing riding on those games. Had Slough won their final game of the season they would have overtaken Harrow and they would have been forced to play two games on the final day of the season with the second scheduled I think for 7.30pm.

So in theory as nothing is riding on Saturday's game the league could allow an abandonment and never rearrange the fixture.

Thing is while they could do that to our game, I doubt that the teams chasing playoff spots below us would appreciate that happening if their pitches are waterlogged. Would they be forced to play or would they extend the season?

I suspect they would be forced to play as it is unlikely the league would make a quick enough decision to extend the season. We played one year in monsoon conditions and the ref basically let it continue just to get the game done and with most players clearly taking it easy.

You're quite right Martin, Billericay Town, Aldershot Town, Sutton United and Hendon all did not finish their 42 games in the 200/01 season. Hendon finished having only played 40 games!
