What does he expect to achieve by slagging off the players? Better performances? Player revolt?

Not a bad statement, to be fair to Gibbo, but had to laugh at the following...

 

I am disgusted by the performances of some of these players who quite frankly could not be motivated if they had a burning poker shoved up their backsides.

 

That's normally the sort of put-down that is reserved for EFM members!!

Where do we go from here ? The answer is forward, upwards and positively. I

prefer where possible to retain some continuity and at the moment Steve Castle will

look after the players. Steve is a top quality coach and has been around

enough to know what is required. We need to instil some spirit and some guts in the side and we cannot afford to pussy foot around with the prima donnas that are costing the club so much money.

 

 

I'm with HM on this one, hardly great PR is it, basically he's saying that virtally all the senior players have been toilet, I wouldn't be surprised if one or two took up the offer of ripping up the contracts.

 

Intresting to also note that the three of the players who have performed well (Deacon. Seeby, Murray) would probably not be in the side if we had the services of three players that we are have seriously missed due to injurys in Campbell, Smith and Naylor

I agree that it was probably not the ideal thing to do, criticising the players in an official statement, but let's face it - it's exactly what we've all been saying about them for ages.

I notice our caretaker manager isn't in there either wonder how he feels about that as well, what with playing virtually every game this season

He's singled out the players who have played well. He hasn't mentioned any of the bad ones by name.

 

I thought his statement was very honest, and that's pretty rare these days.

A little harsh I thought on some players like Lee Gledhill, Barry White for example who have certainly tried to compete in the games I've seen.

 

Maybe what we need is a John Daly type character in the midfield to gee everyone up and get a team spirit going.

Rob, as you may have read in another thread, Thornsy and I shall be sending out CV's off to the chairman to apply for the vacant manager's job in a dual-role capacity.

I thought the statement was superb and from the heart, and we look forward to a successful partnership with Mr Gibson.

Not surprising really. Gibbo does tend to speak first then think later. However, this time I think he's just said what everyone else is thinking.
