3spirit, this forum has been unofficial, i.e. not connected to the club officially, for years and years now. This is not a recent event at all.

Well many of us didn't know it was unofficial,as a lot of previous threads on this subject, awhile back, will testify. The wording of unofficial only seemed to be introduced after the Cookham Rebel/Steve Bateman rankled issue and to me seemed unnecessary.

It seems perfectly reasonable to me that a football club would want to distance itself from the views of its supporters, whatever level they operate at. For what it's worth, I think we have it spot on. This is the only discussion forum for our club as far as I'm aware, but anyone can set one up. And you'll find, unlike some examples from other clubs in the past, people are allowed to express their views on the club freely on this forum, whether it's perceived as positive or negative.

Matt,I agree it is reasonable for Slough Town fc to have this very good forum and our excellent website[sloughTown fc.net].

My reference was just the wording 'unofficial' which came out of the blue when some of the posts were seen to be radical and somewhat controversial, to the moderators and obviously some of the staff at our club.

Just thought it was a bit silly and needless to add the word 'unofficial' but I suppose, understandable.

Don't agree, that everyone's opinion is valued, though.Sometimes just because someone airs a different, out of the norm idea to the majority, often many supporters/moderators aren't always very open-minded to opposing ideas, which is rather sad and not the way forward.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this! lol!

Thanks for the replies. I started a film forum almost a year ago so I'm more interested in how forums work now.

The Hearts forum used to be part of the official site but there were big problems there and it's been separate for years. The Hearts forum has had 2.8 million posts in about 6 years but it's obviously different since we get an average attendance of 13k+.

Still, I think the guys that run this Slough one do a great job and it's good to be able to read about the team and follow the results/video highlights online even if I can't make the games. I'm particularly impressed by the official Slough site. Having all the previous season's fixtures and a huge amount of data on current and former players on the site is an amazing effort.

Why are people making a big thing of the word "unofficial"? This forum hasn't has any direct association with STFC for years.

I think it's entirely reasonable for the club to distance itself from forum views, especially some of the stuff that gets spouted on here! Lots of clubs don't have a forum - Slough Jets hockey team canned theirs a couple of years ago after some negative posts (generally about the owner) that were a fraction of the vitriol that gets posted on here.

I'd also disagree that the moderators "aren't always very open-minded". Of all the forums I've frequented this is the least moderated of any. I can barely recall any threads being locked over the years. Had this forum been moderated like many others I use then half the posts would have been edited or removed. Forum moderation is thankless task but the guys on here do a superb job.

On occasions I have disagreed with the locking of threads etc. however there was one issue recently which was managed spot on and we all know which one that was - the ground is more important than gossip!

There have been other Slough Town forums as Nathan used to have the Rebels on line site with its own seperate forum as an alternative to this one.

As for Rawsaint, sorry I got it wrong about your forum still being up and running, so that is even more reason for you to sod off back to it!

Rawsaint, your chairman seems to do a very good job of making a prat out of himself every time he has one of his public outbursts. He really doesn't need you to second everything he says while licking his boots on our forum.

Anyway, how was the kick and chase football played by those unreal footballers at marlow yesterday?

And check out our programme - some pretty robust opinions printed and the club doesn't come down on its contributers like a tonne of bricks (although the editor changes some articles if they have a pop at him!).

I support Supporters Trust run clubs cos on the whole i don't trust those in charge not to have a hissy fit when they don't get their own way, get abuse on forums and walk away often leaving clubs in the [****!!****] (read The Non League Paper for regularly examples of this). Thankfully we've got a top chairman who isn't all about ego and mouthing off, knows what he's doing and is inclusive.

You guys really take the biscuit, it would be nice to know some of your ages as your comments are unreal.

From what some of us heard yesterday the bloke who ran the forum was a bit of a dictator who ran the site to suit himself.

The club did not have the access they wanted or got news on the site when they wanted it. We also understand a new web site is part of a new sponsor package run BY the club. At least we have the blessing of an official club forum and it was the chairman who got everyone to post under their real names and e mail addresses. Maybe one day your forum will be as open as ours.

Another lickspittle creature. Somebody runs a website for the love of the club for 10 years, and gets smeared for his trouble.

Newts would do well to remember the supporters who have been there through thick and thin, rather than appeal to the glory chasing mob who have followed the chairman's dough.

What's so great about making people post under their real name? Don't people have the right to be anonymous on forums? Seems strange to me. I don't think I've ever been on a football forum where everyone posts under their real name.
