Guernsey do NOT get paid..

Recommended Posts

...and you are doing very well so whats the representatives name Maisie ? He may be a representive down the food chain in Guernsey FC who doesn't know whats happening about the Guernsey budget. He maybe the programme seller for all we know...... ;) !.

I am the programme seller.

I can assure you the person who is annoyed about peolpe saying our club team and officials are paid is nowhere near me in the food chain, way,way above.

He is someone who would know everything about budget, but hey, nobody cares about Guernsey anyway.

I will not name names.

I have to say that Budget pie seems very tasty on this thread :)

Maisie nice to see you are very loyal to the Guernsey cause, but a tip for you from an old timer.Never be the messenger for others, especially if they are as you put it,higher up the food chain.Let them speak for themselves,if they are annoyed, the nice thing though is your no Bertie Smalls.Hope they repay their loyalty to you,by an All Expenses Paid trip to the Premier Cup Final at FarnboroughThats how they could repay you.No one is better than you or me,whoever they are.You should look up to no one in life.

Who gives a flying if they are paid.

They smashed the league,no one has come close and if they done it on 0 budget happy days,if they paid the players then what's the problem.Just seems like jealousy as usual, absolutely fck all to do with anyone outside of guernsey.I bet they can't wait to get into the ryman or wherever they are put just to stop all the snipeing and jealousy from those who claim not to suffer from those two traits

No doubt smudge will now bring up some mention of hornchurch's past....zzzzz bore me later please.xx nitey nitey

Ah yes, billericay, town of around 30'000 people just north of Basildon.Know it well.Plus we are playing them at home on Bank Holiday Monday where 3 points for us could possibly take us to within a point of them, depending on how Fridays fixtures go.

Come back when you have something to wind me up about.xxxx

This thread is hilarious!

Firstly, there have been dark mutterings about money where succesful clubs have been concerned virtually since football was codified. Google "boot money" or "broken time payments" if you don't believe me. Back in t'day, WHOLE CLUBS were suspended for paying out money when they shouldn't have been... The thing is, most of these mutterings are driven by jealousy and made by those who think their own clubs should be doing better than they are. As has been said by others, GFC should ignore them, but I suspect they haven't because they are worried about the potential damage threads like this can do to the perception of people on the island.

Secondly, as the programme seller, Maisie is a de facto club official for Guernsey FC; if a higher-ranking officer has asked her to post a message, it might be because registering/recovering a password for these Forums is an insanely complex process, at least in my experience.

Nice Guy did some "back of a fag packet" calculations elsewhere on this thread and asked where the money's gone in an attehmpt to insinuate it was going into the players' pockets. I think gate receipts of £91k were mentioned?

Now, I know nothing about GFC's finances, but if that figure is accurate, it certainly wouldn't bankroll the players. Let's assume that the air fares for every game are £100 per person. At twenty people per match, whether home or away, that's still £2,000 per match or £80k for a 40-game season. That's before the cost of transporting match kit, warm-up kit and sub suits, bibs, footballs etc, or the addional expenses for the match officials are considered... So already, there's not much change from the £91k and if Guernsey FC are subject to the same VAT rates and regulations as mainland clubs, than 20% of gate receipts and merchandise sales go straight to the tax man. So:

£91k projected gate receipts

less VAT at 20% = £18,200

leaves projected net gate receipts of £72,800 (or, less than the travel bill)

It's well known that GFC's attendances and sponsorship are exceptional for their level of football but, clearly, so is their cost base. Even with the Sportingbet sponsorship and merchandise sales, GFC won't be a cash cow that could afford to page high wages. If the club is profitable, through merchandising, programmes, etc, then those profits should be put aside in case of a cash shortfall.

I'm leaking in the wind here, as others will still mutter darkly about budgets. We all do it. Take the league in which Ashford and Chertsey play. It can be assumed that St Neots have a budget far larger than anyone else, simply because of the players they have. However, their facilities are superb and they get good gates so maybe their budget is met by their income. I doubt it, but can I prove it? No. Does it matter? No. As a director of my own club, I need to concern myself with what we do, not others.

Johnno was quoted in the Surrey Herald that he and his players had given up a week's wages to help fund ground works. The figure in question was quoted in the article. If it was accurate, then I know what Chertsey's budget is and how ours compares with it. While that might help me in the short term and assist with analysing how my own club is performing it changes nothing. We can't know the figure is accurate and even if it were, it doesn't change the resources at our disposal.

Normally, money talks in football. However, that isn't always true - if it were, Ashford would never have achieved what they did and we'd have all got bored and given up. So I say, accept GFC at face value, applaud what they bring to the CCL and worry about what your own clubs do.

I would say £100pp is on the low side, hotel costs have not been allowed for. Tis true that when travelling away Guernsey do not always stay overnight. As a rough guess I would say it would be around £150pp think its a 23 squad plus referees, so make that 26 or just under £4k per home match.

The Chairman said on tv recently that income was ahead in some area and behind in others. Certainly crowd levels have been much higher than originally forecast.

As previously posted I have no official connection to the club.

Not ever being involved on the Financial side of a Football Club, can someone tell me the difference between being PAID and EXPENSES.Is one taxable the other not.

That's probably the most pertinent question to be asked on this thread, Smudgey-boy !!!

Salary

A salary is a form of periodic payment from an employer to an employee, which may be specified in an employment contract.

Expenses

In common usage, an expense or expenditure is an outflow of money to another person or group to pay for an item or service, or for a category of costs.

Both are subject to inspection by auditors AND the tax-man.

Suggest we leave it there for the time being.

But if the expenses are simply reimbursement of costs incurred whilst performing one's duties as an employee (whether paid or not) and are supported by legit paperwork (not just a handwritten note) then there are no tax implications on either employer or employee.

I believe that's a fair summary of UK tax position anyway.

It must get difficult obtaining £1800 worth of petrol receipts each week though Rother ;)
