Did Margate miss a trick?

It's easy to be wise after the event, but did Margate miss a trick that would have got their Ground built (and possibly subsidised)?

One will never know-but i suspect Mr Piper and Mr Lever included this in their submissions.

 

Indeed-the 'forward thinking council' may even have lobbied to get an olympic team here !! (yeah right)

 

That given- we should not get too hung up on the olympics-there are plenty of other 'world sporting events due in UK in next decade-rugby world cup/world athletic championships.

The olympics will attract more european/world games of all sorts over the next 10 years as the facilities are here in London.

No doubt the world archery championships -and similar-less high profile sports-attract about 150 world teams-they have to stay and train somewhere

 

whilst the olympics is the biggest-plenty of other stuff to get involved in -if the council so chose.

 

Good transport links to London-and the hidden gem of its own airport-manston -could make margate a sporting mecca if the council has a mind to it.

 

Thats why for me-the 3G facilities are a crucial aspect

It's not that far with the high-speed rail link, compared to, say the England Football Euro 2012 base in Krakow Poland, when they playing their fixtures in Ukraine (Donetsk is 930 miles away & Kiev is 540 miles).

Maybe because the Olympic Village looks to me like a Dickensian Ghetto, and possible security concerns for starters. I live about ten miles from Stratford, and hope to be as far away as possible for the duration. Give me Margate every time.
