Guernsey are 4-2 up and will romp the Prem next season IMO. I also think they will go up the following year as well.

Correct its down to the players/mangement budget ! The CCL top 4 teams in the Prem are the clubs with the biggest budgets with the exception of Badshot Lea, as is Guernsey in Div 1. I do realise that since, some clubs have quite rightly reduced their budget once they realise they have nothing to play for...now where's that Nice Guy Cup again...lol !

Its fact, that in the main, its all relative thru' the leagues right upto the Barclays Premier.

Want an absolute brilliant night down the Lane! Guildford went two up inside 15 mins with two stunning free kicks but it was mostly Guernsey in the first half. Guildford had some good spells in the 2nd half but in the end Guernsey's class showed threw and were deserved winners.

Must play tribute to the Garenne Stand who after being shown how to sing by the visiting expat army last week finally learned how to make a great atmposphere. The trumpeter was superb with setting the tone, did far more to get the crowd going then the drummers do.

Also fair play to Guildford City players who from the start of play showed their class by applauding Guernsey players onto the pitch, lovely touch. Their no. 2 was a real character, played with his shorts so high, actually tucked into his pants! Leading to much baiting from the crowd, but he took it in the right spirit and actually applauded one of guernsey's goal. One lucky fan took home a momento as he threw his shorts into the crowd. They applauded the great support and showed their true sportsmanship. Roary was on top form too, cleared three hurdles for the first time and took the pee out of their no. 2.

What a game !

Guildford went 2 up with 2 dubious freekicks, but the resulting goals were great free kicks, keeper no chance.

We had a perfectly good goal disallowed, Guildford hit the post, Ross Allen missed a 1 on 1 and he also missed a penalty !

This game had it all ! What a comeback though 2-0 down to 4-2 up ! The atmosphere was electric tonight.

I hope the Guildford players enjoyed our special home atmosphere although they won't have enjoyed the result !

Can't wait for the final ! Still Buzzing now !

Match Report:

Nice touch prior to the game commencing as Guildford City clapped the new champions onto the pitch.

On the pitch Guildford came racing out of the blocks with Guernsey conceding two free-kicks just outside the 18 yard box and the visitors emphatically despatching both with well struck shots.

Guildford 2-0 up after 11 minutes stunned the Green Lions and the crowd, but despite the poor start Guernsey settled and came back into the game, keeping out any further goals and creating chances in front of goal in order to try and reduce the lead.

Quite clearly playing a team of a higher level mean't that the Guernsey players had less time on the ball than they had previously been used to.

HALF-TIME: GUERNSEY FC 0 GUILDFORD 2

STATS: Free-kicks, GFC 6 GCFC 5, Shots on target GFC 3 GCFC 5, Shots off target GFC 3 GCFC 1, Off-sides GFC 2 GCFC 1, Corners GFC 4, GCFC 0.

Guernsey came out in the second half with every intention of getting back into this game and resorted to attacking the Guildford goal at every opportunity. The strategy paid off as Dom Heaume converted in the 58th minute to reduce the arrears.

Guernsey were well on top at this stage and restricted the Guildford attack. Despite their attacking game Guernsey were unable to convert their chances. The clock was ticking and after another attacking move, Ross Allen was brought down in the penalty box by the visiting keeper in the 81st minute. Ross duly took the resulting penalty but blasted high over the bar and kept the score to 2-1 in Guildford's favour.

Chances came Guernsey's way in the last 10 minutes. Ross Allen, despite missing the penalty, made ammends with a beautiful struck equaliser on 86 minutes, giving the keeper no chance as he fired into the top corner of the net and brought Guernsey level. Late in the game Guildford had a rare attack which brought a finger tip save from Chris Tardif.

FULL-TIME: GUERNSEY 2 GUILDFORD 2

STATS: Free-kicks, GFC 4 GCFC 3, Shots on target GFC 5 GCFC 1, Shots off target GFC 4 GCFC 1, Off-sides GFC 0 GCFC 0, Corners GFC 2, GCFC 1.

30 minutes of extra time had the crowd on their feet as they sensed Guernsey were quite capable of winning this game, as they poured forward in search of a winner. Half way through the first period of extra time they were rewarded when Dom Heaume ghosted in at the far post and struck home to put Guernsey into a 3-2 lead.

The sheer pace of the game was causing problems for many of the players who started to struggle with cramp and needed treatment.

Yet another attack by Guernsey shortly after the resumption of the second period of extra-time brought the killer goal as Dave Rihoy slotted home to make the score 4-2 to the Green Lions.

FINAL SCORE: GUERNSEY 4 GUILDFORD CITY 2 (AFTER EXTRA TIME)

MAN OF THE MATCH: MATT LOARING

CROWD: 1,758

Pulsating 120 minutes of football, full marks to both teams for a thoroughly enjoyable game of football for the fans.

Having conceded two goals very early Guernsey showed a lot of spirit and togetherness in getting back into this game and battling through to win a semi-final against the form team and leaders of the Premier League.

Great result for the Green Lions whose reward is a cup final at Farnborough on Friday 4th May, 3 days prior to the Muratti Final in Jersey on the following Monday.

Report from another source...

"Just got home from the match, and it was just like you said. I think every one of their players went down with 'cramp' at some point. Numerous reckless challenges were flying in when we went ahead in extra time, and they realistically could have been down to 8 or 9 men. Their two goals were carbon copies of each other, the captain scoring two free kicks from similar positions. They did look dangerous but we dominated throughout, just didn't take our chances early on otherwise it could and should have been job done over 90 minutes. However we showed our superior fitness in extra time, which in my opinion is the reason we've dominated so many games this season.

Also, has anyone who has seen Guildford play noticed the atrociously short shorts of their number 2? Could barely see them from under his shirt, looked like he was playing in his budgie-smugglers."
