Town 1 Lewes 0

This was my second visit of the season to New Lodge, the first one being the AFC Hornchurch mtach. I feared that I was going to end up being a jinx again. But Billericay played a lot better in the first half than they had against Hornchurch. It was altogether a better line up and one or two weaker links that had I noticed before were not out there this time. Lewes are a competent side who clearly know how to play out a draw away from home, and very nearly succeeded, in fact they could have even snatched it. Billericay looked a bit nervy to me -- perhaps understandable -- with too many poor first touches, misdirected passes, and dead-end passing routines. However they certainly could not be faulted on effort and drive, and unlike the previous time they did take the game to the opposition from the off.

In terms of individual performances the goalkeeper was fine, likewise the full backs, though the left back Hawes's seemed to run himself into trouble with some of his forward sorties. The centre backs looked solid and sound, especially the skipper. The holding midfielder Collis worked hard defensively and showed good leadership on the pitch, but some of his distribution left much to be desired, particularly some of the long balls. The two wingers were on song, especially Chatting, and as others have said were probably the stars of the show. The playmaker, Poole, worked hard but did not always make a decisive impact. The centre forward, May, who had a poor game against AFCH, but was much better this time. The second striker White showed some nice touches but could not quite seem to get a grip when it counted as the game went, and his substitution by an apparently nippier and trickier player was left too late in my view.

But altogether it was a good 'ground out' performance, and a well-deserved result against a team difficult to play against. Having been part of the biggest crowd of the season in December I was pleased to be part of, I think, the second biggest. The weather of course helped to make it a good afternoon out, the atmosphere was good, and again I enjoyed it. I'll plan to come again on Good Friday and/or to the last match

The latest from Lewes apart from whinging about the height of our players, non-protection of their players from the ref and the strength of our elbows, is that the ball actually spun out of play off the Lewes defenders hand, leading to Chattings goal!

Blimey, Simon (The Lewes Manager) had a lot to say, so much in fact, they they had to use 4 articles to fit it all in,

Not sure I agree with this though,

And asked if he was still feeling positive about making the play-offs, he said “Absolutely. Definitely. I just said to the boys, if we continue playing like that we’re going to take a lot of points in the last seven games.

I cant can't see them getting more than 7 points if they "continue to play like that"

He doesn't seem to want to offer any explanation as to why they've fallen away so badly since he took over. Much like Dalgleish at the moment he seems to be looking for excuses rather than taking responsibility.

More positively, I thought we thoroughly deserved our win. We were positive going forward and firm at the back, Dale had a pretty quiet afternoon for the most part. It was an excellent strike by H who had a good game.

On to Kingstonian... Another massive game.

Having read the article about the ball going out for a corner and having watched the video of the goal a couple of (hundred) times I don't see or hear anyone appealing for a corner only handball.

So yesterday it hit the crossbar. Today the ball went out of play, wonder what tomorrow will bring!? Has anyone from Lewes actually watched the goal footage?

All their bench kept saying to their players throughout the game was "Don't worry about trying to pick anyone out, just put it in an area", which I think can be safely paraphrased as "Hoof it" - another phrase "Pot, kettle" springs to mind...
