LONDON COLNEY v KINGS LANGLEY CUP FINAL HIGHLIGHTS

Recommended Posts

It's taken me a good number of hours to edit them all together but here they are at last. Sixteen minutes of highlights form the Herts FA Senior Centenary Trophy final from Wednesday night between Kings Langley and London Colney.

It was a fantastic game of football and a great advert for non-league and the SSMFL. After Langley's fourth goal went in on 90 mins + there was an off the ball incident which saw Colney's number 4 Sean Murphy sent off which I don't think was caught on camera. There was lots going on in the middle of the park, over the far side and on the near side.

On this showing and if they keep their team together with a few additions over the summer I think Kings Langley will have a very strong 2012/13 season and be right up challenging for Division One promotion. They have beaten both Ampthill Town and Colney in the Division One cup recently.

A report from the Spartan South Midlands League Website:

HERTS SENIOR CENTENARY TROPHY FINAL

Kings Langley ran out 4-2 winners in the final against a strong London Colney side at the County Ground last Wednesday, to register their highest Cup honour in their history. They triumphed, despite being on the ropes for the first quarter, when Ross Hampton pulled off superb saves from Newman (4 minutes) and Knightly (6 minutes), while in between Sam Warrell cleared off the line. Hampton was powerless however, when an indirect Greg Shaw free kick in the area glanced off an ill-advised wall to give Colney the lead on ten minutes. Kings dragged themselves back in it when James Armstrong lashed home their first real chance on 27 minutes, after Jack Johnson and Sam Warrell combined to put him through. Three minutes after the break Johnson’s cross found Evan Connolly in space to net from close range, but Colney equalized within a minute, Matt Newman driving a partially cleared corner through a sea of legs. It was Kings though, who now looked the stronger, Pooley hitting a post and Johnson firing just over, before Warrell’s chip enabled the hard working Craig Lynskey to steer the ball home with just twelve minutes remaining. Not content with running down the clock, Nathan Pooley’s run at a retreating defence culminated in a powerful shot into the far corner of the net in the last minute- unfortunately Colney’s Shaun Murphy took exception to the celebrations and received a red card for alleged violent conduct. All that remained was for Gary Connolly to lift the Cup for Kings among scenes of jubilation for their loyal supporters.
