paramedics on standby

The shocking Muamba incident obviously highlights this-but does it set you thinking as to what happens at lower league level.

we've al learnt about the regulations in for this at premiership level-and it could well be the case that there are similar-albeit reduced-regulations at ryman level.

set me wondering whether they are kept to though by all clubs.

we see every home match at MFC the ambulance/medics parked up-and i believe club doctor is also always in attendance-so seems MFC are spot on-another sign of the professionalism.

Now i only probably go to about 8 away games-and one may not obviously look first for where the ambulance is (priority is coffee shop and then the toilets ) -but off hand-i can't recall too many visits to away games where you see a similar set up in readiness. (maybe just out of site),albeit i expect there are minimum obligations/requirements on all clubs-

Are one or two taking unecessary risks though by not fulfilling what obligations are in place simply through cost ?

I have no idea

I doubt clubs could fulfill this,it would be just another cost to cripple them, plus paramedics are needed elsewhere, the muamba incident is very rare.Like in every other walk of life,if something happens you call the ambulance service,if its an emergency they are usually there in 10-15 minutes if not sooner, physios have a level of qualifications usually to cover first aid which would be a minimum i would guess.Think we need to realise these cases are very rare indeed

You are right-and i'm sure that for many-it is a matter of cost.

one of the points i was badly making though-is that Margate seem to be 'fulfilling' this at every home game-by having an ambulance and trained paramedics on constant stand by-and are arguably prioritising this to their credit.

what i am not sure though is whether this is a 'regulation'9in which case are some clubs not fulfilling this) or done by the choice of the club

The reason football league clubs have it is A) there are many thousands at the ground and B)they can afford it

I think the St Johns people attend our games for free, they do a collection towards the end of the season.

One of the ladies has been at Margate games since time began so I think its a case of just good supporters doing their bit.

We who were there sadly had to witness the collapse and ultimately the death of our much loved then, ex player Paul Sykes at Folkestone. It may only have been a few minutes but it seemed like eternity waiting for the ambulance to arrive. No excuses Eastside Urchin, talk to your local st johns, have a fund raiser to help or a collection, maybe give up a pint of your cherished nectar per week, get them on side. You never know when something is going to happen

Crikey-feel terrible- completely forgot about that.tragic.brings it all home.

If it is that St Johns attend volutarily as suggested above-hope any collection is well publicised and well supported over more than one game

Don't drink.So can't give that up.

If clubs can get their local St johns in then fine, not even sure if we have a local one round these parts.

As for paramedics, think they are busy enough on the weekends to attend a football match with low crowds,if they were to attend every game in the country you wouldn't have any left for serious stuff etc

They will be in the phone book. Better safe than sorry.

We are very lucky to have Dr Ryder on call at most games, as he is also a big fan.

  • 2 weeks later...

Forgive me for one piece of self indulgence , as everyone has their own trials and tribulations to get through; but funny how some posts do strike a cord-and having had my first ever ride in an ambulance last weekend, you perhaps appreciate even more how the simple things are taken for granted.

A bit too far and early for me,but i hope the charity footbsll match next sunday is well supported.
