Bedworth v St Neots

Recommended Posts

Two very good sides, different styles, but both very good. Just out of interest how do you think both sides, as they are would fair in the Premier League?

Both would do just fine and would challenge for a playoff spot, I think.

Mid table at best, that would be a good season

That's life. But really, second (by a long shot) in the league and the realistic opportunity for a fantastic new ground in Slough soon. What the [****!!****] is there to moan about this season?

Everyone likes a moan ! lol !

This has been a season to remember, regardless.

As you know,Brighton Rebel, some people look for the positives, some people look for the negatives and some of us can see both sides. This year the ground news is a huge positive step in the right direction. On the football side,we're doing very well and if we finish in the top five,it's been another good season but not a defining one.

As Hotspur points out and the Abba song goes 'The Winner Takes It All ' and so far we haven't quite had what it takes to win it under Steve Bateman's leadership. Fine margins we know but that's the difference between winners and runners-up and while all the best teams suffer the odd blip or two, we've almost beaten ourselves,at times, with some of our strange losses and daft draws through ill-discipline and wrong tactics.

Sounds very harsh on what has been a truly memorable season but having only witnessed one Championship winning side here at Slough since I started supporting regular ,that of the 1989/90 Vauxhall Opel winning side, I just want to see a Slough team like that again who play superb passing football and are together as a united team and put poor sides to bed by beating them convincingly.

A very hard ask I know but we can but dream.

Some observations Rowan.

Your first goal came from a long hoof from your keeper, touched on by one player. Although very nicely taken from Moore from an acute angle it did sit up quite nicely for him.

The second goal from Mackay looked a bit of a half hit tame shot with the keeper beaten at his near post. Looked like the keeper really should have done better unless it took a deflection.

The 3rd goal again came from a long hoof from deep inside your half. Again the goal was well taken but again IMO question marks over the keeper being lobbed from so far out.

Not meant to be derogatory Rowan, Just my ( unbiased ;) ) view of your 3 Quality goals.

Remember, you are watching "real" footballers scoring those goals!

And a Chairman who swears his team will never resort to the long hoof ball game unlike other less talented non-league teams

You guys really are a biased lot and can see no further than slough town. You are full of it when you win and slate everything slough town when you loose.

Some of the comments after the north greenford game are quite disgusting. Talk about kettle black.

Rowen is right why bother. Of course you will say p--s of onto your own site then. But that's expected. What ever friends you might have had and that's proberbly not many you will loose.

Maybe the afc Hayes fans were right I certainly hoped they were wrong.

Blue touch paper is now alite.

Well I wasn't aware that AFC Hayes had any fans (with the exception of a small group of trolls), but as for posting a video of 3 "quality" goals on an opposition messageboard, that might be interpreted as rubbing it in don't you think?

Saints Alive, calm down, it's only a game and all about opinions which any fair minded person would appreciate.

We are 'full of it' when we win, like most supporters and when we lose we are mostly honest with our opinions unlike some supporters who cow-tow to the money man.

I'm not sure what you mean about comments being 'quite disgusting' after the North Greenford game but even a couple of our players appologised on Twitter saying the performance was not good enough and not acceptable.

I'm not sure if you noticed but Rowan put a smiley face after his comment and I'm sure, as it was meant, took it as light-hearted banter.

Along the way we have made a lot of friends, most recently Hitchin Town who we beat in one semi-final and the next season they beat us in a semi final and got promoted.

I would also like to think we also made friends with St Neots supporters who came across as a great bunch of fair-minded supporters, unfortunately soured a little by your Chairman who I would like to think blurted out his comments before he really though about what he was saying.

As far as AFC Hayes goes we certainly do have a bitter local rivalry with them, mainly because we often get a very hostile reception when we play them and quite frankly find their management team rude and obnoxious.

BTW as far as I'm concerned your welcome on our forum anytime.

I tried to go off topic a bit, with the question about how both teams would fair in the next league up, as they are. Try and get back on that train of thought, we have played Bedford away this season (lost 3-1), a couple of key players were injured but we took the lead and should of been out of sight before they equalised on half time!

On what little I have seen of Slough and teams from the Premier league, I'd actually say both teams are well capable of holding their own in the league up. Much would depend for both sides about retaining good home support, thus gaining some extra revenue to make a couple more signings. Certainly in our case, with possibly 15 squad players its a bit lean in comparison to others.

You only have to look at recent examples of teams, which are well run I'll add, have gone up to the next level and enjoyed continued success. Just thinking from recent seasons, Bury Town, Chesham United and AFC Totton have all gone straight into title or play off positions. Momentum can be a powerful thing.

Just a little point on championship winning teams :-

"only witnessed one Championship winning side here at Slough since I started supporting regular ,that of the 1989/90 Vauxhall Opel winning side, I just want to see a Slough team like that again who play superb passing football and are together as a united team and put poor sides to bed by beating them convincingly.

I have seen a good number for Slough but they always lost some games to weaker teams and it still felt like a disaster at the time.

What we have done over the last three seasons is improve. However, we do this year it will now be an improvement on last. I believe next year will be better again.

The comments from Bifaxman are right that both teams are capable of holding their own in the Premier and who knows we could be reghular opponents for some years until the leagues are re-organised again. .

I hope for both our teams good that this is close to the last game, it will certainly help bring in more fans.

UP THE REBELS!
