Herts Senior Centenary Trophy - Final

London Colney 2 Vs. 4 Kings Langley

Admission: £5 with free programme

Things started brightly with Colney going on the immediate attack and setting a furious pace. The Langley keeper was forced to make a string of superb saves, but sooner or later Colney would score. For the first time in as long as I can remember an indirect freekick was awarded, which the Colney player actually used to have a crack at goal. After a deliberate deflection, the ball was in the back of the net. Clever. Langley equalised straight afterwards and despite going back and forth the half ended there all square.

The second half picked up exactly where the first half left off, but the game just seemed to get better and better. Langley went 2-1 up, before Colney equalised and it stayed at 2-2 until 79 minutes when Kings Langley scored what would be the winner. Colney tried their best but couldn't find a way back in and Langley ended their chances with a fourth a couple of minutes before full time.

Langley deserved the win (the first time they've won this competition), but credit to both teams - everyone played their part and played it well. There wasn't much between them.

 

Excellent match and easily one of, if not the, best matches I have seen this season. It'd been a funny 24 hours - on Tuesday I was watching what may well be my worst game of the season. I was in two minds as to whether to go to this one, but since my partner was at work and I had the opportunity, I knew I'd regret not going. Excellent decision.

 

The County Ground at Letchworth is very impressive. Easily good enough for step 3, I'd've thought. A lot of money has clearly been spent.
