Slough v Biggleswade

Recommended Posts

Definitely did not see that coming, but what a comeback from the lads. Biggleswade should rightly feel robbed after their performance but you can't argue with the fact that we have picked up 3 points from nowhere.

Was pleased to see that we made a few changes from Tuesday, but then baffled by how badly we were playing at times. Then suddenly we have two goals from nowhere at the end of the game, so who cares! We need to sort out our possession in midfield but we took the two chances we had and got the points to keep the title race interesting. We seem to have resorted to long ball football again and it is so infuriating. Our first goal and the free kick for the second goal came from playing the ball on the floor like we know we can and that is when we are at our most effective.

On to Ashford next week, let's see if we can keep this title race a bit interesting for a while yet! COYR.

Well, I can't really remember a more undeserved yet vital three points! The home match against the Corinthian Casuals about 9 years ago springs to mind, but it wasn't at such a crucial stage of the season!

For 85 minutes, we did absolutley nothing, and yet we still manage to pull that out of the hat! Disappointing really, as I had a very negative posting all thought out and re-drafted several times!

I felt we badly missed Paul Coyne today, as we seemed to expect Steve Sinclair to do everything and beat everyone. That was about it as far as the midfield was concerned. I felt the defence were good, but couldn't do it all. I predicted at half-time that Biggleswade would nick one and that would be us finished, well I was almost right!

out of nowhere it still gives us a chance. didnt deserve it but we will take it. pressure just about kept on st neots

lets remember Biggleswade are/were at least 5th so no walkovers and we got the job done eventually somehow

but as said in other thread football doesnt matter much when something like what happened to Muamba happens

Been mugged ourselves a few times this season so it was our turn for a bit luck.

Could be a turning point in our push for the title.

Well done to the team.

COYR!!

BTW one lesson learnt today, Jerome Anderson is not a target man. When pushed out wide to take players on he was a different player and the catalyst for our win.

Well done Jerome!

Agree RR, wouldn't mind seeing Anderson and Sinclair flying down either wing next week at Ashford!

Also, I think Ben Abbey should be given a start next week with Burnell as his partner!

Good news that Fabrice Muamba is stable!

Ben Abbeys commitment has to the club has been superb considering how little he has played. he seems a highly respected member of the squad and always seems to be positive and encouraging to the squad. so happy that this time his late goal was the winner after what happened with Hayes.

also well done to Alex Brown for his player of the month award. very unlucky to have not been in team today. saying that Woozley was again great today as he was vs St Neots

great to hear about Muamba being stable.

For the game I think the report on the official website sums it up,really.

My posting here concerns, what I've said from the start of the season, that we are too dependent on Paul Coyne. As good as he's played in a lot of games,we have had times when we could of made some other alternative creative midfield style/formations,as it was clear yesterday, that our midfield three were not functioning well together. I'm amazed that Steve Bateman/Fred Cummings didn't choose to bring on Steve Perkins for Ollie Burgess at half time.

I'm afraid Ollie Burgess was missing from duty for large parts of yesterday's game.

Stuart Swift is a moody player. When Slough function well,he is usually at his best but when Slough have to dig in and fight for their rewards,he doesn't seem bothered.[he wasn't the only one who looked disinterested !].

Whatever you think of Adam Logie as a player, you cannot level at him that he hides in a game, although sometimes his tackling can be weak[although yesterday it wasn't]. I thought he was out of steam with 10 minutes to go and because he hasn't played regularly he appears to lack 90 minute match fitness. Mind you,he had to do a lot more work in midfield than normal, due to his negligent midfield partners,so maybe it's understandable.

I thought if we had brought Steve Perkins on,we could have used him to take a holding midfield role, thus enabling Swift and Logie to be more dynamic going forward and to have halved their defensive duties.

Does anyone know how long Paul Coyne is out for?

If he is out for a few games then perhaps to freshen the midfield up at times, either from the start or from the bench, having the option of Sam Bateman, to do some of the hard running and donkey work in the middle. His mobilty is an untapped asset.

Dave Woozley was again my man of the match although wonderkid Ben Abbey ! and NBH run him close.Yesterday,Woozley showed that he was a better footballing centre half than I had previously thought and I wonder why we don't use these skills more often by him bringing the ball out of defence rather than just booting it up field.

As Reading Rebel has said on this thread,Jerome Anderson has to play a wide role.He has pace and takes on defenders. With Steve Sinclair not at his best currently, Jerome has to be a shoe in for his place to start next weeks game against Ashford.

The team I would like to see play against Ashford,if Paul Coyne's out is

Warrington

Sweeney,NBH,Woozley.

Perkins

Anderson Logie Swift Murphy.

Abbey Sonner.

Subs:Bateman,Brown,Burnell,Herron,Sinclair.

Yeah made up for Ben Abbey, a top bloke who never sulks and has weighed in with some really important goals this season. Great 3 points in the end and a week off now for everyone to recharge their batteries for the run-in.
